Our cafe, events and catering services play an important role in supporting our charity and providing members with real-life learning experiences.
Role Purpose
As a Catering Assistant, you will support the Catering Lead in delivering high quality catering services across our cafe, retail, events and outside catering operations. You will help to create a positive, safe and engaging learning environment for our Members, enabling them to develop skills and confidence. You will also play an important role in generating income that supports the ongoing sustainability of the charity.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation and serving of food and beverages, following food hygiene and safety standards.
Support the Catering Lead in planning and running catering services both on-site and for external events.
Deputise for the Catering Lead when required to ensure the smooth running of catering operations.
Help plan catering sessions that offer meaningful learning opportunities for Members.
Support, guide and encourage Members in line with their individual support plans.
Ensure high standards of food quality, customer service and presentation.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of dietary requirements and allergen management.
Help with food procurement, stock control and supplier performance monitoring.
Maintain accurate food labelling and compliance with catering policies and legislation.
Contribute to income generation across the catering function.
Monitor equipment to ensure it is safe, clean and in good working condition.
Assist in the cafe/retail area and provide excellent customer service.
Maintain a clean and hygienic working environment.
Drive RCL vehicles when required (full driving licence essential).

Person Specification
Essential
Catering qualification and/or relevant commercial catering experience.
Food Hygiene Level 3 (or willingness to complete).
Knowledge of Health & Safety and food safety practices.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
Experience working with people with learning disabilities.
Experience working with volunteers.
Experience in healthcare, education or similar community settings.
Experience working within a budget.
GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent).
Full driving licence.
