Hours:

35 hours per week, 7.30am until 3pm Monday to Friday (30 minute unpaid lunch). Term time plus 5 additional days.

Salary Scale

: Grade 12 - Actual salary 23,164 - 25,969 (Based on 28,598 - 32,061 per annum pro rata)

Job Purpose:

The Catering Manager will lead and manage the catering team, ensuring the delivery of high quality, nutritious meals that promote healthy eating for pupils. This role involves organising, supervising, and participating in all kitchen operations, including cooking, serving, cleaning, and maintaining hygiene standards, to provide a safe and clean environment. The Catering Manager will develop cost effective and nutritious menus, prepare recipe specifications, and ensure that kitchen staff are trained, supported, and equipped to consistently deliver meals to a high standard. Additionally, the role requires adherence to all statutory requirements, including HACCP procedures and accurate record keeping.

Key Responsibilities:



Lead, manage, and support the catering team to maintain high standards and continuous improvement in food quality and presentation.

Plan, prepare, and develop cost effective, nutritious, and appetising menus aligned with government guidelines and dietary requirements.

Ensure that kitchen staff are trained to consistently deliver meals to a high standard.

Ensure meals cater safely for those with allergies, intolerances, or special dietary needs.

Ensure compliance with HACCP, COSHH, statutory food hygiene and safety regulations, health and safety requirements, including accurate record keeping.

Organise and participate in all kitchen operations, including cooking, serving, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment.

Minimise food waste through efficient menu planning, storage, and safe reuse or disposal of leftovers.

Source, order, build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, cost effectiveness, and timely delivery of ingredients and equipment.

Monitor the handling, storage, and preparation of chilled and frozen foods to ensure safety and quality.

Conduct regular risk assessments in kitchens and ensure staff are trained in maintaining these records.

Cater for meetings, school functions, and educational activities, including cost preparation and quote management.

Train, induct, and appraise new and existing staff, ensuring adherence to health, safety, and food hygiene standards.

Identify, report, and resolve health, safety, or operational hazards promptly.

Participate in school wide initiatives promoting healthy eating, nutritional education, and catering related activities.

Maintain personal responsibility for health and safety in the kitchen.

Implement environmentally friendly and sustainable catering practices.

Monitor customer feedback and make improvements to enhance the catering service.

Prepare reports for school management on catering performance, costs, and compliance with standards.

Foster a positive, motivated team culture, encouraging innovation, accountability, and professional development.

Undertake additional duties as required, commensurate with the role, to support the catering service and wider school activities.

Safeguarding and Student Welfare:

Uphold the school's safeguarding policies to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

Ensure all safeguarding training is completed and up to date.

Qualifications and Experience:



Essential:



GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, demonstrating a good standard of general education.

Level 2 Food Handling/Food Safety qualification.

HACCP Level 2 (willingness to progress to Level 3).

Proven experience in a commercial catering environment.

Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Desirable:



Awareness of COSHH regulations.

Level 3 Food Handling/Food Safety qualification.

Experience working with cashless catering systems.
