Job Description

The Governors and Headteacher of St Agnes Primary School wish to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated Cook Supervisor to join our Catering Team from September 2025. The management of the kitchen has been under the control of St Agnes since 2021 and procedures are fully embedded therefore we are seeking a Cook Supervisor to continue the efficient management of the kitchen.

As Cook Supervisor you will be responsible for managing the Catering Team Assistant and for leading the preparation, production and cooking of approximately 90 covers per day.

The successful candidate will have a passion for serving high quality, freshly cooked meals, focussing on delivering the highest quality food to maximise school meal uptake, whilst ensuring value for money and meeting School Food Standards.

Salary - Grade 4

(SCP 12-17 / Actual Salary 19,196 - 20,823)

Job Purpose:



To be responsible for an effective, high quality catering service which meets the needs of the pupils and the school and ensures that catering and National Nutritional Standards are attained and maintained, within specified budgets. To manage a Catering Assistant to achieve those objectives for the Catering Service.

Key Tasks



To be responsible for the day-to-day operation and performance of the school catering service.

To develop and progress the catering provision to deliver healthy and high-quality meals, including the planning of daily menus, taking into account cultural and specific dietary needs, and statutory allergy legislation.

To plan and develop menus on a termly cycle meeting School Foods Standards.

Oversee the smooth running of lunchtime service ensuring prompt and efficient service meeting expected standards of presentation.

To be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen. This includes ensuring that cleaning duties are undertaken in line with the cleaning schedule and kitchen and dining areas are tidy, hazard-free, and the Catering Assistants are observing the associated risk assessments.

To work within and monitor associated budgets, liaising with the Business Manager and Headteacher to support the completion of termly financial reports for submission to the Governing Board.

To work with the Business Manager and Headteacher to negotiate best value contracts with authorised suppliers, to ensure cost effectiveness of the catering service without compromising the quality of the catering service.

To order food stocks to fulfil planned menus. When deliveries arrive ensure delivery notes are checked against what has been supplied and report any discrepancies to the supplier immediately.

To maintain a record of food stock levels and complete stock returns by the date required.

To conduct routine checks of equipment, cleaning materials and uniform. Work with the caretaker and Business Manager to ensure the maintenance arrangements for all equipment are current and valid, in line with current legislation.

To support and assist with our newly established breakfast club.

To effectively manage and lead a Catering Assistant.

To ensure compliance with all Health & Safety policies and procedures, COSHH Regulations regarding food, equipment, materials and general safety (including Food Hygiene and allergy legislation).

To regularly review and update risk assessments, develop appropriate action plans and communicate updates to relevant staff. To ensure that all areas of the kitchen are clean and free from hazards.

To ensure that necessary repairs to kitchen equipment are reported immediately and repairs arranged, ensuring unsafe equipment is taken out if use pending repair.

To ensure all accidents and incidents are recorded on the relevant Accident Forms and reported to the Headteacher according to School procedures. To be responsible for the regular inspection and maintenance of the kitchen first aid box and arrange replenishments as necessary.

To ensure the security of the catering area at all times

To ensure high standards of cleanliness, personal hygiene and appearance.

Qualifications



Supervisory experience in a catering or restaurant environment Strong team management and leadership skills Culinary and food safety knowledge Experience in food preparation and cooking NVQ Level Two, Intermediate Food Hygiene Health & Safety At Work Budget understanding Computer literature
