CAVDAS brings together established, experienced, well-respected providers of drug and alcohol support services, so it's easier for people to find and get the help they need.
Each organisation brings its own set of specialisms to the Alliance, and we also have a very strong peer support team. This means every individual can have the right help to get where they want to be at every step, and it means we can easily further develop services as required.
The Alliance is made up of Kaleidoscope, Recovery Cymru, Barod and, uniquely, the commissioning body Cardiff and Vale Substance Misuse Area Planning Board and has strategic partnerships with Pobl and G4S.
Individual supervision will be provided six weekly in line with CAVDAS partner organisation policy.
This role will provide an assertive outreach response to service users who require complex unmet need proactive engagement tools to facilitate access to services and reduce barriers to engaging in treatment. The role will work closely with housing support, homelessness services and Statutory providers of specialist clinical substance use support, and social care. The focus of the role will be to provide structured psychosocial interventions via innovative and flexible engagement techniques to support harm reduction, case management and health promotion initiatives across Cardiff and Vale health and social care partners.
Engagement will be provided in a person centred and recovery-oriented delivery system. Working as part of an assertive street-based outreach model, the role should aim to improve motivation to engage in services and reduce dependence on crisis support and emergency services.
The post holder will be expected to work as part of a larger substance use multiagency team, supporting substance use and homelessness across Cardiff. They will have excellent communication skills, be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, across agency cultures including those within statutory, private and voluntary sector partnerships. The post holder must be flexible and efficient, to ensure services are delivered equitably and with the service user at the heart of delivery. S/he will have a nonjudgmental approach to people who have recognised that their use has become problematic and be able to provide a welcoming and accessible service to existing and potential service users.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
To engage with a range of individuals with substance use issues who have adopted a 'street lifestyle' including people who are rough sleeping, begging, street sex working and street drinking with a view to addressing unmet need, facilitating continued engagement in structured treatment, and developing resilience and recovery.
To participate in a pattern of shift work to enable maximum potential contact with individuals.
To provide trauma informed practice and accredited psychosocial interventions based on Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behaviour, and other recognised structured therapies in line with BACP governance, NICE guidance and Matrics Cymru.
To participate in multi-agency initiatives including Case Review meetings and shared working to reduce the level of homelessness and its associated impact
To provide an assertive outreach service, supplying interventions and information regarding substance use and associated lifestyle behaviours that reduces the risk of overdose, reduces substance related deaths, reduces the spread of blood borne viruses, promotes healthy living, and minimises the potential risks and impact of substance related crime and disorder on the wider community.
Work with and manage a case load of individuals who have been identified via the MDT.
Develop and maintain strong links with key stakeholders in local services. Liaise with individuals, statutory and voluntary organisations as appropriate and support service users to engage in additional health and social care needs.
To pro-actively work to increase motivation to access treatment and facilitate referral and entry into appropriate treatment.
Engage with Peer2Peer delivery and community rehabilitation programmes to support and sustain resilience and long-term recovery goals.
Work to reduce anti-social behaviour and substance-related offending by liaising and working closely with the criminal justice partners to encourage service users to access treatment and build a positive recovery network
To work within agree policies, procedures, and protocols to safeguard children, vulnerable adults and those experiencing domestic abuse.
To attend and report to safeguarding reviews, meetings, and conferences such as Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conferences (MARACs).
Undertake risk assessment and develop and review risk managements plans that seek to mitigate identified risk.
Deliver harm reduction initiatives including Naloxone training, needle exchange and Dried Blood Spot Testing
Enter data onto the CAVDAS and MDT case management systems and use the systems effectively to inform work with service users and concerned others.
To undertake any administrative function related to the role to a high standard, in a competent and timely fashion.

Contribute to the induction and orientation of new staff, volunteers, and students o Ensure professional development by seeking regular supervision and annual appraisals. o Effectively manage own time and prioritise workload, maintaining own administration and accurate personal records regarding travel, diary appointments, TOIL, and expenses incurred.
Service Development
To represent the service and participate in any meetings as requested.
To represent CAVDAS in the wider community.
Support the continued delivery of a high-quality service in line with the service specification and regional delivery plans.
Contribute to the delivery of internal teaching and training programmes
Work collaboratively with colleagues to further develop the service
Contribute and encourage the use of Welsh Language within your own practice and that of your colleagues (internal and external) promoting the Active Offer - more than just words in your day-to-day activities with service users and the wider Cardiff and Vale community.
