Purpose of the role



The CELTA tutor is a key role in BSC's vision of 'delivering outstanding and transformational learning experiences'. This role works closely with the MCT, College Manager and Lead Teacher & Teacher Trainer to support delivery of all CELTA courses in the college. The CELTA courses could be full or part-time, face to face, online or mixed mode. Full time courses are 4 (face to face) or 5 (online) weeks long, and the part- time courses are 12-13 weeks.

Our CELTA delivery venues are Manchester and York, and online. BSC runs up to 20 CELTA courses per year across these three delivery venues and the ACT role will support the MCT in the effective management of the course and its trainees. BSC aims to deliver paperless CELTA courses as far as possible, so the ACT is key in supporting that and helping to manage the online platforms and repositories used such as SharePoint and Teams, Google Classroom and the Cambridge Moodle.

The duties of the role are outlined below but are not exhaustive. There may be occasions where the CELTA Tutor is asked to undertake other tasks in consultation with the College Manager and Teacher Training Manager, such as interviewing prospective trainees.

General Role Responsibilities



Cooperate with group, college and academic management as well as other teacher trainers/CELTA Tutors with regard to the preparation of courses, creation of materials and delivery of lessons Support the MCT throughout the course, sharing the input lessons and teaching practice sessions, marking assignments and managing your TP group as required Oversee the general welfare of all trainees/students in your classes and refer any issues to the safeguarding officers in accordance with the safeguarding policy Manage trainee and free student behaviour in the classroom and on school premises, and apply appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviour in liaison with school management Undertake pastoral duties as necessary and support trainees/students on an individual basis through their academic journey Actively participate in arrangements for your own future training and professional development as a teacher trainer including required standardisation cycles Counsel and interview prospective CELTA/DELTA candidates where requested and ensure that a positive impression of the college and its products is conveyed Participate in quality control, standardisation and development programmes both with BSC and Cambridge Support the MCT with administrative duties where necessary and in agreement with the Course Manager

Assistant Course Tutor (ACT) Responsibilities



Writing and amending teaching practice points Completing the teaching practice grid Arranging for teaching practice students Dealing with trainees' issues/problems during a course Designing/redesigning input sessions Delivering input sessions (shared with MCT) Marking assignments Double marking assignments Completing the assignment tracking grid Observing teaching practice (shared with MCT and TPTs) Completing reports and marking lesson plans during teaching practice Conducting feedback after teaching practice Completing the teaching practice tracking grid Writing up and conducting tutorials Writing end-of-course reports Support with archiving portfolios as required and using the Cambridge online platforms such as Moodle and Appian

Assessor visit



Writing candidate profiles Updating candidate profiles after the assessor's visit Attending and taking part in the grading meeting

Education & Experience Required:



Cambridge DELTA or industry equivalent (level 7) Teacher Trainer status (approved CELTA course tutor registered on Cambridge Assessment database with proven ACT experience) Degree or alternative relevant experience Ability to deliver lessons to TEFLQ standards Experience in EFL teaching in the UK or abroad, with a good understanding of current industry developments Evidence of competently using learning technologies in the classroom and online Evidence of Continuous Professional Development and the willingness to learn new skills

Experience & Knowledge Desired:



DELTA local tutor status Experience as DoS or ADoS or other academic coordinator role Knowledge of another language at B1 or higher Experience in curriculum/syllabus design and/or materials writing Expertise in another subject or industry such as business, technology, hospitality etc.
