Job Description

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Whittlesey (Central Engineering) team in the position of Controls Engineer.

Your duties would include but not limited to the following:

To provide specialist expertise and knowledge, driving projects and improvements to reduce downtime and increase throughput across the company by applying advanced techniques in the areas of automation, PLC, SCADA and HMIs. Working within the Central Engineering Team you will be part of a core team tasked with improving the level of automation and control across approximate 16 highly automated manufacturing sites.

Specifically, the company is looking to improve existing highly automated production environments with advanced SCADA and HMI systems to streamline reporting and improve Process Control.



Developing and working to the Forterra "standard" for PLC, HMI and SCADA implementations. Designing, developing and implementing of advanced SCADA systems for factories around the group to streamline fault finding and improving machine availability Produce Function Design Specifications for submittal to 3rd party system integrators Managing small and medium size projects which are wholly or mainly Controls based, from conception to completion. Assist in high priority or complexity breakdowns around the group on an exceptional basis. Join cross functional teams for large projects to take ownership of the PLC and SCADA areas of the project. Work to the highest standards of Safety, both in the design and operation of automated equipment and in behaviour on site. Commissioning support for projects around the group. Ability to design and execute small scale projects independently.

About You:

Strong all-round background in software development with emphasis on industrial control systems and integrating specific factory systems Good inter-personal skills, team work, hands-on approach and a desire to deliver improved technology and equipment to the end-user Be proactive and take accountability for any projects and tasks assigned. Detail oriented. Strong presentation skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate with staff at all levels Ability to travel to various sites across the UK
