We're offering a rewarding opportunity to join our Community Team as a Chagossian Carer Wellbeing Worker. This vital role focuses on supporting family and friend carers within the Chagossian community in Crawley, helping them access the information, guidance, and support they need.



Carer Wellbeing Workers provide invaluable services to help improve carers' resilience and ensure they are supported to maintain their caring roles. As our Chagossian Carer Wellbeing Worker you will identify and support Carers from the Chagossian community through a mix of group, 1:1, online, telephone and in person support.



Being a visible and trusted presence in the community is important, so you'll take part in engagement events and outreach activities, making sure support is always within reach. Partnership working is key--you'll collaborate with health, social care, and voluntary sector partners, as well as Chagossian community leaders, to enhance the support available for unpaid carers.



Being fluent in English and Chagossian Creole is essential.

Occupational Requirement



This post is exempt under Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. It is a genuine occupational requirement that the post-holder is from the Chagossian community and speaks Chagossian Creole.



This requirement is necessary because:

Fluency in Chagossian Creole is essential for effective communication within the wider community. To provide culturally appropriate support and build trust within the Chagossian community. This requirement is proportionate and essential for the effective delivery of our services. This can only be achieved effectively by someone from within the community who understands its cultural context and speaks Chagossian Creole.

Job Role



Key Responsibilities and Duties




Carer Identification:

Using culturally appropriate methods, develop and implement outreach strategies specifically designed to connect with the Chagossian community in Crawley



Carer Support:

Provide a blend of accessible in-person, online, telephone, 1-to-1, and group support to carers within the Chagossian Community.



Information & Guidance:

Offer tailored, personalised information, guidance, emotional, and practical support to carers, helping them navigate local services and make informed decisions.



Partnerships:

Refer and signpost carers for targeted and specialist support, develop local relationships, and attend partnership meetings as required.

This is a hybrid role, combining remote and home working with delivery in community venues. You'll need to travel across Crawley to provide carer support and attend meetings, so familiarity with these areas--whether through work or residence--would be a real advantage.
