Clover Ward, a 17-bedded Female Acute Ward, is situated within the newly established mental health unit at North View, North Manchester General Hospital.



This role presents an exceptional opportunity to join a state-of-the-art inpatient environment as a charge nurse, working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team. The position emphasises patient-centred care and therapeutic engagement, ensuring that all aspects of direct patient care are delivered with the utmost quality.



A fundamental responsibility of this role is to provide sound clinical interventions to service users while offering clinical leadership to a designated group of staff on a daily basis. In partnership with the Ward Manager, the post holder will play a crucial role in developing and transforming nursing care provision. This includes ensuring that care is tailored to meet the mental health and physical needs of service users, is culturally sensitive, and adheres to professional guidelines.



The charge nurse will take charge of shifts on a rotational basis, whilst coaching staff nurses in effective shift management, role modelling best practice. They will also take primary nurse responsibilities for the most complex service users and their carers.



This role also entails establishing and maintaining effective communication with all relevant personnel involved in the care of service users, both within and outside the Trust. Moreover, the post holder will lead key areas of the inpatient pathway, supporting clinical practice on the ward and implementing best practices.



In collaboration with the ward manager and deputising in their absence, they will ensure ongoing clinical and professional development for ward staff through on-the-job coaching, mentoring, audits, regular supervision, and training for members of the team.

The Charge Nurse plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care while leading and supporting nursing staff. This position requires a blend of clinical expertise, effective communication, and strong organizational skills to foster a collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities: 1. Communication and Relationships: - Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. - Foster a positive working environment by promoting teamwork and collaboration among nursing staff. - Act as a liaison between nursing staff and management, addressing concerns and facilitating resolutions. 2. Knowledge, Training, and Experience: - Utilise extensive clinical knowledge to guide nursing practice and ensure adherence to best practices. - Provide mentorship and training to nursing staff, enhancing their skills and professional development. - Stay updated with the latest advancements in nursing and healthcare practices. 3. Judgment Skills: - Demonstrate sound clinical judgment in assessing patient needs and making informed decisions. - Evaluate complex situations and implement appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety and care quality. - Lead by example in ethical decision-making and adherence to nursing standards. 4. Organizational Skills: - Oversee daily operations of the nursing unit, ensuring efficient workflow and resource allocation. - Prioritise tasks effectively to meet the needs of patients and staff in a dynamic environment. - Maintain accurate documentation and reporting in compliance with healthcare regulations. 5. Service Development: - Contribute to the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures that enhance patient care. - Identify areas for improvement within the nursing unit and participate in quality improvement initiatives. - Engage in service development projects that align with organisational goals and patient needs. 6. Information Governance: - Ensure compliance with information governance policies, safeguarding patient confidentiality and data integrity. - Promote the use of electronic health records and other technologies to enhance patient care and documentation. - Educate staff on information governance principles and best practices. Qualifications: - Registered Nurse Mental Health. - Proven experience in a nursing leadership role, preferably in an inpatient setting. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
