We are a growing and well-established Fire Engineering consultancy founded in Swansea, which has grown into a multi-national team with offices in Wales, England and sunny Italy. As a part of our continuous structured growth, we are looking to hire a well-established Fire Engineer who is capable of assisting in the development of our teams, peer reviewing and working on a variety of Engineering projects across many different sectors, most notably the exciting Nuclear sector.

Summary of expectation



Senior Fire Engineer to support the business's substantial period of growth, who will be capable of managing a team of engineers and help shape their development, providing mentorship to share understanding.

You will be expected to produce your own fire safety strategies, fire risk assessments, bespoke fire engineering (first principles), performance-based designs supported by fire and evacuation modelling, risk analysis and cost-benefit analysis as appropriate. This will include site visit attendance and a level of commitment to training programmes no different to other staff, except working at a more technical level. To peer review internal fire engineering reports and provide commentary on the quality and technical details within the report.

The successful candidate will have a Master Degree and Degree in engineering/science subject and will understand in depth the principles of Fire engineering. A willing and professional manner.

Accountability



Produce fire safety engineering reports

Support the development of colleagues and junior staff

Review design information such as drawings and documents.

Ensure work is compliant with client expectations and contractual obligations.

Resolve fire engineering concerns by applying accepted principles, codes and standards.

Knowledge and skills



Hold a master's degree and a degree or equivalent qualification in a suitable engineering or science subject

Registration with a relevant institution, such as the Institution of Fire Engineers or the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), is essential, as well as demonstration of volunteering within fire safety groups, such as special interest groups

Experience and knowledge of the following:

Experience of developing holistic fire safety strategies and performance-based designs, supported by fire and evacuation modelling, risk analysis and cost benefit analysis as appropriate.

Experience in implementing the principles of fire science in the built environment

Experience in providing fire safety advice within regulated industries such as nuclear power generation

Experience in the management of fire safety on construction sites

Experience with interface with Fire and Rescue Services (private and public)

Experience in communicating and presenting design solutions to a wide audience consisting of both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Experience and knowledge of appropriate UK legislation, regulations, and national and international standards

Understanding of the requirements of insurers and appropriate life/asset protection

Knowledge of Fire water network and Fire water pumping systems, including fire water pumps, storage tanks, etc.

Knowledge of Water Spray Systems for all applications, including spheres, above-ground vessels, transformers, storage tanks, flammable and combustible pumps, etc.

Knowledge of relevant analysis, design and specification software/techniques in addition to Hydraulic Calculations for all water-based fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, water spray systems, fire pump sizing, fire water network analysis, and foam systems

Experience of managing and motivating teams of technical specialists to deliver project commitments to programme and cost.

Able to apply an analytical, methodical approach to engineering problems.
