Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Chassis Systems Engineer Chassis Motion Control to be based at our customers site in Gaydon.
Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
As a Chassis Systems Engineer Chassis Motion Control, you will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of vehicle motion control systems such as electronic stability control (ESC), brake control, active suspension, and steering systems. This role involves system architecture, requirements engineering, functional safety compliance, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver world-class chassis control systems for next-generation vehicles.
The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Driver Modes System onto current and future vehicle platforms, from initial Definition through Model Delivery, Validation and Sign-Off for a Premium Midlands based OEM.
Area of Responsibility
xc2xb7 Define system architecture for chassis motion control systems (braking, steering, suspension).
xc2xb7 Develop functional and non-functional requirements based on vehicle dynamics targets and customer/OEM specifications.
xc2xb7 Create system-level models (e.g., using MATLAB/Simulink) to simulate and validate control strategies.
xc2xb7 Translate stakeholder and OEM requirements into system specifications.
xc2xb7 Ensure traceability and consistency across all levels (requirements, design, verification).
xc2xb7 Collaborate with software and hardware teams to define interfaces and integration requirements.
xc2xb7 Work in accordance with ISO 26262 to define safety goals, perform hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA), and support safety case development.
xc2xb7 Support ASPICE and cybersecurity activities where applicable
xc2xb7 Liaise with OEMs, software architects, calibration engineers, and validation teams.
xc2xb7 Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and lead design reviews.
xc2xb7 Interface with suppliers for component integration and requirements alignment.
Knowledge / Experience
Knowledge / Experience (Essential)
xc2xb7 Automotive or Electrical Engineering Degree
xc2xb7 Experience in Automotive Chassis / Motion Systems and associated features, although strong candidates with relevant system experience from other industries such as aerospace will also be considered.
xc2xb7 Some experience of delivering complex mechatronic systems from concept to production.
xc2xb7 Demonstratable experience of delivering complex projects to quality, cost and time.
xc2xb7 You will have a strong background in systems engineering and requirement management, along with change management tools and processes, version control, control strategy documentation.
xc2xb7 You will have demonstrable experience in Jira toolsets, including but not limited to Confluence and Lucid.
xc2xb7 Experience in delivery of safety critical active control systems and associated software to ISO26262 standards.
xc2xb7 Strong knowledge of control systems, vehicle dynamics, and embedded systems.
xc2xb7 Proficiency in tools like MATLAB/Simulink, INCA, CANape, CANalyzer, DOORS, or Polarion.
xc2xb7 Experience with ECU development, chassis sensors, and actuators.
xc2xb7 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills.
xc2xb7 Proficiency in issue resolution management, including both methodology and application e.g. 8D, Fishbone.
xc2xb7 Full UK driving license
Knowledge / Experience (Desirable)
xc2xb7 Knowledge of vehicle dynamics particularly in the active systems domain.
xc2xb7 Experience delivering complex integrated control systems for a large-scale OEM.
xc2xb7 Experience in MBSE methods and toolsets (MSOSA or similar)
xc2xb7 Hands on vehicle testing in the active systems domain including subjective and objective test methods.
xc2xb7 Understanding of automotive networking, diagnostics and fault handling techniques, and related system development tools (CANalyzer, ASL, CANape, etc.)
xc2xb7 Previous experience in JLR and their technology/product delivery processes would be an advantage.
xc2xb7 Recognised industry driving qualifications e.g. JLRs Class 3 / 4PG etc
