Reports to: Cafe Manager

Location: Merchant City, Glasgow

Hours: 9:00am - 5:30pm (no evenings)

Contract: Full-time

Salary: Excellent rates of pay + progression opportunities

Role Purpose

To prepare, cook, and present high-quality dishes in a busy, thriving cafe environment. The Chef will ensure consistency, maintain excellent food standards, support menu development, and contribute to smooth kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Cooking

Prepare and cook menu items to a consistently high standard. Follow recipes and portion control guidelines. Assist with daily prep, batch cooking, and specials. Ensure food is presented attractively and correctly every time.
Kitchen Operations

Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workspace. Follow all food safety, hygiene, and allergen protocols. Monitor stock levels and communicate ordering needs. Assist with deliveries, labelling, and storage. Minimise waste and support cost-effective kitchen practices.
Teamwork & Service

Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house team. Maintain positive communication during busy periods. Support smooth service flow for sit-in and takeaway orders.
Skills & Experience

Previous experience in a cafe, bistro, or similar fast-paced kitchen. Strong knife skills and confidence across hot and cold food preparation. Good knowledge of food hygiene and allergen handling. Ability to work quickly without compromising quality. Reliable, punctual, and motivated.
