Job Description

The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for 42 residents in a residential care home. The role ensures meals meet individual dietary, cultural, medical, and personal preferences while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and presentation. The Chef will work closely with a Catering Assistant to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise the kitchen team to ensure efficient food preparation and service Oversee daily kitchen operations, including food production, plating, and presentation Develop and implement creative menus that meet customer preferences and dietary requirements Maintain strict adherence to food safety standards and hygiene regulations Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and control waste to optimise kitchen efficiency Train, mentor, and evaluate staff to promote professional growth and teamwork Ensure all dishes are prepared to the highest quality standards and served promptly Collaborate with management on menu planning, special events, and customer feedback Uphold a positive working environment that encourages innovation, cleanliness, and safety

Experience

Proven supervisory experience within a professional kitchen or hospitality setting Extensive background in food production, cooking, and food preparation techniques Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team effectively Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in a restaurant environment Experience in restaurant service or hospitality industry is highly desirable Familiarity with culinary trends, menu development, and presentation standards Previous experience in managing kitchen operations during busy service periods is preferred
