We are seeking a committed and dynamic individual to join our team as a Community Centre Assistant Chef. We are looking for the right candidate to complement our existing staff team and support colleagues and the Parish Council.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a kitchen or catering environment. Experience of working within a community setting would be an advantage but is not essential.
The position is zero-hour contract. Work will be offered in line with service need and paid for hours worked to cover the Chef in their absence or support the chef for seasonal and community dinners. Appointment subject to a DBS check.

Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Service
Assist with, and when required lead, the preparation, cooking and service of warm meals for community lunch sessions.
Ensure meals are ready on time and presented to a good standard
Cater for dietary requirements and allergies
Food Safety & Compliance
Always support food safety compliance and, when providing sole cover, take responsibility for food safety during the session
Ensure compliance with Food Hygiene Regulations and SFBB procedures
Complete and maintain all food safety documentation, including:
Temperature records
Cleaning records
Allergen information
Report any food safety concerns immediately
Lone Working
Work independently during food preparation and service where required
Follow lone working procedures to ensure personal safety
Ensure the kitchen is secure during and after use
Menu Planning
Follow agreed menus and recipes
Support the Community Centre Chef with preparation for seasonal meals/events when required
Where providing cover, liaise with the CEO/RFO and/or Community Centre Chef regarding planned menus, dietary requirements and any necessary changes.
Stock Control & Ordering
Support stock rotation and maintain food stock levels to avoid shortages or waste
Purchase ingredients within agreed budgets
Check deliveries and ensure correct storage of food items
Cleaning, Laundry & Hygiene
Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and complete cleaning schedules for all surfaces, equipment and utensils
Launder kitchen cloths, tea towels and aprons as required (washing machine on site)
Waste & Recycling Management
Dispose of food and general waste safely and promptly
Follow centre procedures for recycling
Ensure waste is stored away from food preparation areas
Health & Safety
Follow all health and safety policies and procedures
Use equipment safely and report defects
Maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others
Hours & Working Pattern:
Zero-hours contract: no guaranteed hours; shifts offered as required to cover sickness/absence and support seasonal meals/events.
Shifts are typically 10.00am-2.00pm (approx. 5 hours) and include authorised food purchasing, preparation/cooking, working with serving volunteers, kitchen clean-down, and completing food safety records.
Additional paid hours may be offered by prior agreement for seasonal meals or special events.
Other Responsibilities
To undertake training, as required by the Council.
To comply with all relevant Council systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with financial regulations, standing orders and administration procedures and systems.
To maintain an awareness of the activities of the Council.
Work flexibly to meet the requirements of the service
Ensure confidentiality of Council matters not in the public domain
Apply equality and equal opportunities principles in line with Council policies
Carry out other various duties as required by the CEO/RFO.
Any other duties of a similar nature to the above as reasonably requested to do.
