6-month placement with possibility of extension plus adhoc shifts across the Trust.


Up to 37.5 hours per week - 5 shifts over a 7-day period including alternate weekends.


Various shift on a forward rota between core hours of 6am to 7pm.



Band 3 - 12.75/hr (Midweek) / 17.22/hr (Saturdays) / 21.55/hr (Sundays & Bank Holidays)

We are on the lookout for a qualified

Chef

at the Moorside Unit within Trafford General Hospital to support the Catering Department.

Start immediately - subject to onboarding.



MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES



Preparation and production of all meals, including full English Breakfasts, lunches, and evening meals. Expectation to work with pork products.

Required to undertake responsibilities for all aspects of food preparation and service, providing catering services to patients, staff and visitors restaurants including hosting hospitality events of already established highest standards.

Ensure food meets trust standards and temperature requirements for both hot and cold food in line with Hazard analysis and critical control points and deal with any discrepancies as per departmental policy and following departmental SOPs.

Keep up to date with departmental COSHH manual and PPE requirement for each food preparation and cleaning task - also ensuring that all food/stock is stored at correct temperatures and ensure correct use of labelling by using label machine provided where appropriate.

This role requires extensive use of:



All equipment used in commercial food preparation, production, and packaging

All equipment used in commercial retail industry

IT equipment (computer, printer & other VDU/devices)

Vending units (Hot/cold food & beverage)

PERSON SPECIFICATION



A minimum of NVQ Lvl 2 catering or cookery qualification.

A valid Food Safety Lvl 2 certification.

Experience in working in a fast-paced kitchen.

Ability to produce interesting and nutritious menus within set budgets.

Knowledge of HACCP, COSHH and various health and safety legislation.

This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.

All applicants must be trained in food hygiene to Food Safety Level 2 standards or possess HACCP certifications - and possess sufficient experience to warrant working as a cook/chef rather than a catering assistant.



The Moorside Unit, located within Trafford General Hospital in Urmston, Trafford, provides inpatient mental health services for adults and older adults. It accepts referrals from Community Mental Health Teams or via the Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Liaison team based in A&E departments at Trafford General Hospital. The unit comprises several wards, including Bollin Ward (a 10-bed mixed-sex ward for older individuals with functional illnesses), Brook Ward (a 22-bed male-only ward for acute mental illnesses), Greenway Ward (an 11-bed mixed-sex ward for older adults with dementia), Irwell Ward (a 6-bed psychiatric intensive care unit), and Medlock Ward (a 21-bed female-only ward). Staff provide patients and their carers with information about mental health, recovery, and available resources.

Additionally, the unit offers therapeutic activities, such as personalized strength training sessions and creative programs like music production and jewellery making, to support patient recovery.
