St Mary's Home is a care home in North Staffordshire owned by a religious order and registered charity. We are looking for a dynamic, passionate and skilled chef committed to providing high quality food to our residents to maximise their quality of life. We offer a salary of over 24,000 per annum with alternate weekend working, no split shifts or late evenings plus subsidised meals, paid breaks and uniform, part paid DBS check and a friendly working environment. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in a similar environment but training will be provided.

To be responsible for managing the operation of the catering function including food production, staff management, supplies, presentation / service and record management and compliance with quality and safety standards. To ensure that food produced and served to residents, visitors and staff is of a consistently high standard.

To manage the catering function to a high standard of service, and support, direct, guide and supervise junior staff members.
CRITERIA
To hold Level 1 and 2 City & Guilds Catering or equivalent and Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.

1: OVERALL VALUES
1.1 The Chef is a senior member of the team and is required to ensure the maintenance of the highest standards of catering. Conduct will be professional at all times, and the post holder will communicate effectively with all colleagues, residents, visitors and external customers. Senior staff are expected to observe all health and safety requirements, promote the philosophy of the Home and take responsible care of all property and belongings within the service.
2: GENERAL PRINCIPLES
2.1 Conduct must always be professional and in accordance with St Mary's policies.
2.2 Always be courteous and respectful to fellow staff members, people using the service, their families or representatives, other professionals involved or not involved in their care and all other external customers and visitors.
2.3 Reports to line manager as and when required to do so.
3: FOOD PREPARATION
3.1 Supervision and preparation of the cooking and serving of high quality, nutritious and attractively presented hot and cold meals, as and when required for both residents and staff.
3.2 Providing for special dietary requirements where necessary and taking into account the preferences of individual residents.
3.3 In conjunction with the Registered Manager, develop and implement a four-weekly, seasonally adjusted menu system, taking into account the views and preferences of people using the service. The menu should be nutritionally balanced, provide choice and variety, be appetising and meals must be palatable in appearance and presentation.
3.4 Stock ordering and control including checking deliveries and stock rotation.
4: MANAGEMENT
4.1 Motivate and supervise the catering team.
4.2 Prepare and assist in managing catering staff rotas, including managing staff absences and arranging cover.
4.3 Ensure that hygiene regulations are implemented and appropriate records maintained.
4.4 Organise cleaning schedules including periodic deep cleans.
4.5 Ensure that all equipment and crockery is cleaned and stored appropriately.
4.6 Assist in recruitment, induction and training of catering staff as and when required.
4.7 Follow the Home's procedure for the maintenance and repair of both equipment and building works.
5: PERSONNEL
5.1 Participate in regular staff meetings, staff appraisal and staff supervision.
5.2 Ensure the Home is a safe environment for people using the service and visitors by being aware of the Health and Safety policy, and by ensuring that related procedures are carried out correctly. Record and report all accidents to people using the service, staff and visitors.
5.3 Attend fire lectures and be aware of fire procedures.
5.4 Participate in the appraisal of staff when required.
5.5 Help to maintain good morale within the Home and promote sound organisation, fair and clear staff relationships and good communications.
5.6 Be aware of the needs of other staff within the Home, referring them to those best able to help whilst maintaining confidence.
5.7 To carry out any other reasonable duties as required.
