Part-time, 1-3 days per week, must include Sundays.

Approx 8.30am - 4pm (can be slightly flexible here)

12.50 - 14 per hour D.O.E.
Role Overview
We are seeking a friendly, reliable and conscientious Chef to join our small team in our family-oriented play cafe. You will be responsible for producing all menu items for both children and adults, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and presentation -- all within a warm, welcoming environment where parents, young children, and families feel comfortable and cared for. You should be passionate about food, attentive to detail, and comfortable working independently in a cafe kitchen that serves families.
Key Responsibilities
Pre- Service: Preparation of all key components needed to hand during service.
Service: Ensure meals are prepared in a timely manner to meet service times, coordinating with front-of-house so children and parents receive food promptly and at appropriate times.
Clean Down: Clean the kitchen down in preparation for the next day's service.
Maintain strict food hygiene, allergen awareness, dietary-requirement vigilance (especially important with children), and compliance with all food safety regulations.
Kitchen Maintenance: Keep the kitchen organised and safe -- washing up, cleaning surfaces, sanitising equipment, rotating stock, disposing of waste appropriately, help with receiving deliveries, storing ingredients, checking stock levels, and notifying Head Chef when items need ordering or replenishment.
Adapting to demand, helping where needed, perhaps taking on extra prep, cooking, or cleaning.
Work collaboratively with staff to ensure a welcoming, safe environment for families; communicate positively and respectfully with customers when necessary (e.g. explaining dishes, accommodating dietary needs).
Skills, Qualifications & Personal Attributes
Essential:
Minimum 1 year's experience working in a commercial kitchen.
Basic cooking skills: comfortable with food prep, simple cooking tasks, plating, portion control.
Knowledge of food hygiene, safety standards, allergen management, and kitchen cleanliness.Must hold a recognised food-safety qualification
Understanding of dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, allergy-friendly cooking).
Reliable, punctual and conscientious -- especially important when cooking for children and families.
Attention to detail: in cooking, presentation, hygiene, and following recipes/instructions.
Ability to work calmly and efficiently, even during busy, pressured times (e.g. school-holiday rush, weekend peak times).
Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a small kitchen team (and collaborate with front-of-house staff).
A caring attitude and an understanding of working within a setting that serves families, including children -- sensitivity, patience, and awareness of dietary/allergy issues.
Must be able to drive and have access to a car- we are a very rural location with no public transport.
Desirable:
Previous experience working in a cafe, family-friendly environment, or a kitchen serving children/families.
Basic knife and kitchen equipment skills.
Food-service or catering qualification (e.g. NVQ / City & Guilds or equivalent).
Ability to take initiative and support small-business style kitchen operations
