Job Summary

We are busy garden centre cafe in the heart of Poundbury cooking locally sourced homecooked food. 9 hour shifts over 3-4 days to include at least one day at the weekend. The shift also may includes one early breakfast shift and will you be asked to do an occasional evening shift if we have a function on. This is a position which can provide a decent work/ homelife balance with a fun and hard working team.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Chef/kitchen assistant to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality and food preparation, with a keen interest in fresh cooked food. As an chef/kitchen assistant, you will support the head chef in food production and kitchen management, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Responsibilities

Assist the head chef in preparing and cooking meals according to established recipes and standards. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. Help manage kitchen staff, providing guidance and support during food preparation and service. Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, assisting with ordering as necessary. Participate in menu planning and development, contributing creative ideas for new dishes. Ensure that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and cleaned after use. Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow during busy service periods. Assist in training new kitchen staff on food preparation techniques and safety protocols. Shifts to include days at the weekend, early breakfast and the occasional evening function

Qualifications

Previous experience in a kitchen environment, preferably within a restaurant or catering setting. Strong knowledge of food safety practices and culinary techniques. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. A passion for food production and hospitality, with a desire to learn and grow within the culinary field. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality. Team management skills are advantageous, along with a collaborative spirit to foster a positive work atmosphere.
