Chemical Engineer / Project Manager

Leeds, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About BindEthics

BindEthics is a pioneering green-tech start-up developing a patented bio-adhesive made from food waste. Our innovation replaces toxic, formaldehyde-based adhesives used in engineered wood panels - a 20 billion global market. Unlike traditional adhesives, our glue is safe, sustainable, and enables true circularity in the wood industry.

We have successfully completed industrial trials, secured our first sales, and are entering the commercialisation phase. With strong backing, an Innovate UK grant, and industrial collaborations, we are now building our supply chain and scaling production to meet demand.

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated

Chemical Engineer with scale-up and project management experience (5+ years)

to join our growing team. This role is critical to our success as we transition from lab-scale innovation to full commercial operations.

This is not a desk-based role. You will be

hands-on, on-site, and in the lab

, working directly with scientists and managing logistics around scale-up trials. At BindEthics, there are no operators - you will

design, think, and execute

.

You will take ownership of projects across the value chain, from process development and pilot trials to supply chain set-up and commercial readiness. With limited resources but huge potential, you will thrive in a demanding start-up environment where creativity, problem-solving, and resilience are essential.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage scale-up projects, bridging lab research and industrial production. Work closely with scientists to translate lab chemistry into scalable processes. Design, execute, and oversee trials at partner facilities and client sites. Develop, optimise, and document processes for adhesive production. Manage project logistics, budgets, and timelines with precision. Establish and refine supply chain systems to support commercialisation. Act as both

engineer and project manager

- thinking strategically while delivering tactically. Collaborate with industrial partners, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful adoption.

About You

Degree in

Chemical Engineering

(or related discipline). Minimum

5 years' experience

in process scale-up, ideally within adhesives, chemicals, bio-based materials, or related industries. Proven track record in project management - delivering on time and on budget. Strong understanding of chemistry and ability to engage with lab-based R&D. Comfortable in start-up or resource-limited environments, where adaptability is key. Hands-on, practical, and proactive - you don't wait for instructions, you make things happen. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Willingness to travel for site-based work and trials.

What We Offer

Salary of

45k to 48k per annum

.

Equity options

may be available for outstanding candidates with relevant experience. Opportunity to shape the commercialisation of a patented, world-first bio-adhesive. Direct involvement in scaling a green technology with global potential. A collaborative, entrepreneurial environment with strong industrial and academic support.

Why Join Us?

At BindEthics, you won't just be part of a company - you'll be part of a movement redefining how wood products are made. This role offers the rare chance to be at the heart of commercialising a sustainable innovation with massive industry potential.

If you're ready for a demanding, hands-on role where your expertise will directly impact the future of sustainable materials, we want to hear from you.
