Job Description

You will be part of a well-established team in an interesting, exciting and varied role. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic experienced chemist or chemical engineer who will be the right spark in our work. You can expect to be "hands-on".

Product Development: You will be involved in the development of new products to fit in with the BCB range, as well as improving the quality and production processes of current goods, including the FireDragon Fuel range, hand sanitiser, and camouflage creams. You will appreciate the current and potential future requirements of clients. You will also explore new avenues for FireDragon Fuels and Dr Browne's hand sanitiser, liaising with charities, universities, and other organisations to work collaboratively wherever appropriate.

Manufacturing: You will be involved in the production of both the FireDragon Fuel range and Dr Browne's hand sanitiser, as well as camouflage cream. This will involve work with large volumes of flammable materials, safe use of fine particulate gelation polymers and other powders as well as mixing on an industrial production scale and development of operating procedures.

Quality Control: You will be responsible for recording appropriate data and monitoring the quality of the FireDragon Fuel range, camo cream and hand sanitiser. You will be involved in troubleshooting any manufacturing or product issues that may arise. You will be required to network with, and advise to, 3rd-party test facilities where outsourcing testing is required. You will be required to respond quickly and professionally to internal and external technical queries, accounting for the recipients' technical knowledge in each instance.

Health and Safety/Regulatory Compliance: You will be required to use your chemical knowledge to advise on safety related issues arising from your own research, and products being manufactured by BCB.

This will include COSHH, Safety Data Sheets (including generation thereof), Classification, Labelling, and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) regulations 2008, Biocidal Product Regulations, Cosmetic Product Regulations and with an understanding of DSEAR. You will understand occupational health and safety in a factory environment, with the ability to conduct risk assessments where appropriate delivering COSHH Training & Refresher training to staff as required . You will advise on transport of dangerous goods, when required.

Skills and Competencies:

Ability to design experiments, collect data, and draw conclusions from the results. Ability to review scientific and technical literature. Perform administrative activities e.g. maintain/develop record systems using MS Office. Good written and verbal communication skills through writing reports, technical documents, and providing support to colleagues and customers. Ability to communicate scientific and technical information to a range of audiences. Ability to stay up-to-date with current regulations. Ability to maintain good H&S practices, conduct risk assessments and COSHH assessments. Ability to generate and give presentations using MS Powerpoint. Ability to organise, plan and prioritise your own time and manage multiple tasks concurrently. Ability to manage your own research projects and collaborative projects. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Enthusiasm to get involved in production and QC processes, change and improvements

Requirements:

Knowledge of handling hazardous chemicals safely, especially flammable liquids. Knowledge of formulation/cosmetics/gelation chemistry. Health and safety qualification e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH. Competent use of computers and software e.g. MS Office.
Desirable

Degree qualification in chemistry or chemical engineering or a related discipline (2:1 or higher). Proven ability to undertake and run research projects.

Pay: 28,000.00-30,000.00 per year
