EM Resist Ltd is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Laboratory Production Technician to join our manufacturing team.
This role is focused on the production of high-quality resist solutions for lithography applications including manufacture of resists such as poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA), SML and hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ). You will work with a variety of chemicals and processes, gaining hands-on experience in a technical laboratory environment. This role involves handling hazardous chemicals and materials as well as chemical synthesis to be managed in strict accordance with health and safety regulations and protocols. Full training will be provided.
Alongside your key role and responsibilities, you may also be asked to assist in other areas of the business or our other business activities. These may include working with the R&D team, liaising with the sales team on technical issues or purchasing.
We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Laboratory Technician to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will assist in scientific research and quality control processes, ensuring that all laboratory activities comply with FDA regulations. Responsibilities and Duties:
Manufacturing operations of resist solutions and ancillary chemicals. This includes chemical synthesis of polymers, preparing formulations in organic solvents, filtration and bottling in a clean environment and labelling and packing of EM Resist materials in compliance with quality and safety standards.
Performing quality control testing on manufactured products.
Following SOPs and maintaining accurate batch and process documentation.
Maintaining COSHH and Risk Assessment documentation
Cleaning and basic maintenance of filtration units, local exhaust ventilation (LEV) systems, and associated laboratory equipment.
Supporting general laboratory management tasks, including stock handling, waste management, and housekeeping.
Use relevant instrumentation and ancillary techniques for QC testing of resists to support further development of our product portfolio and assist with client application support, e.g., Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Beam Lithography (EBL), sample preparation, plasma etching, etc. Full training will be provided.
Appling your skills to support our R&D team and assist colleagues in other departments.
Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities, including data entry into Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Perform quality control checks on samples and equipment to ensure compliance with established standards.
Assist in the preparation of laboratory samples and reagents, adhering to safety protocols
Analyse test results and report findings, demonstrating strong analytical skills.
Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and improve laboratory processes.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the laboratory workspace, ensuring all equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
Educated to bachelor degree level or above in a relevant scientific subject (eg. Chemistry, materials science, physics), alternatively at least 2 years' experience in a relevant industrial setting. Background or experience in polymer chemistry would be preferred.
Prior hands-on scientific laboratory work (academic, industrial, or training course).
Experience handling chemicals safely, including liquid measurement, mixing, and work-up of chemical reactions.
Familiarity with basic chemistry lab equipment.
Good understanding of chemistry principles, techniques and safe laboratory practice.
Careful and methodical working style.
Basic record-keeping skills for documenting procedures and results.
Awareness of health & safety procedures and willingness to work with hazardous chemicals using PPE.
Ability to work well in a small team with effective communication.
Comfort with manual handling up to 10kg.
Willingness to learn and develop new skills in a technical manufacturing environment.
Desirable
Prior experience of small-scale manufacturing laboratories
Experience with ERP systems
Familiarity with electron microscopy, NMR, mass-spectrometry, GPC and/or ICP-MS
Previous laboratory experience is preferred but not mandatory; however, familiarity with scientific research methodologies is advantageous.
Strong analytical skills with a solid foundation in mathematics are essential for accurate data interpretation.
Proficiency in using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) will be considered an asset.
