This isn't just engineering leadership. It's turning breakthrough science into life-changing treatment.
At Neupulse, we've developed a groundbreaking medical device that uses precisely controlled electrical pulses to help people with Tourette's regain control of their tics. Based on world-leading neuroscience, our technology is poised to make a real difference in the lives of people who desperately need new treatment options.
As we move into full product launch, this is your opportunity to be part of something extraordinary.
We need a
Technical Lead / Chief Engineer
to be the CTO's right hand--the technical authority who can drive our product from where it is today to full commercial launch and beyond. This is the role that ensures our life-changing device makes it into the hands of everyone who needs it.
You'll lead the cross-functional development of our medical device platform--spanning hardware, electronics, firmware, and cloud-connected software. You'll bridge strategy and execution, coordinating internal teams, external design partners, and manufacturing partners to deliver a compliant, reliable, and scalable system.
This is about building a product, not just managing it. You need to think like an owner, taking responsibility for both the product's success and the team that builds it--from external partners today to the internal capability we're building for tomorrow.
This role is based alongside our CTO in the Basingstoke office, so you need to already be fully eligible to work in the UK.
What you'll do
Lead the technology
Guide multidisciplinary engineering across hardware, embedded software, and cloud systems.
Oversee system and software architecture decisions, including firmware, electronics interfaces, and Azure-based cloud connectivity
Act as the technical authority for product design and integration.
Drive the launch
Translate strategic objectives into executable technical plans aligned with business and regulatory goals.
Oversee end-to-end development--from verification to regulatory submission, manufacturing transfer, and post-market support.
Manage external design agencies, software developers, and contract manufacturers while building our internal capabilities.
Ensure compliance and quality
Maintain compliance with medical device standards: ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and IEC 60601.
Drive best practices in configuration management, version control, and CI/CD.
Contribute to technical documentation, design history files, and MDR technical files.
Build the team and culture
Mentor engineers and promote a collaborative, delivery-focused engineering culture.
Provide program-level oversight, milestone tracking, and progress reporting.
Thrive in a start-up environment where adaptability and hands-on problem-solving are essential.
What you'll bring
The essentials:
10+ years
in product development, with
5+ years in senior technical or leadership roles
in medical device or regulated industries.
Strong product mindset
--you understand what customers need and can translate that into technical reality.
Cross-functional expertise in hardware, electronics, and software integration.
Proven track record delivering medical devices or digital health products through to commercial release and sustaining production.
Deep knowledge of medical device standards (ISO 13485, IEC 62304, IEC 60601) and quality management systems.
Experience working with external design agencies, software development partners, and contract manufacturers.
Full and unrestricted right to work in the UK without time restriction (no graduate or student visas) - we do not offer visa sponsorship.
Technical expertise:
Familiarity with Azure cloud platforms, digital health ecosystems, and connected device architectures.
Proficiency in relevant programming languages (Python, C/C++, C#, Java).
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electronics, Software, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
The mindset:
Willing to 'roll up sleeves' and engage directly with technical challenges.
Comfortable in a start-up setting where you'll shape both the product and the organisation.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
