Role Description




Summary


Acting consistently with Board decisions and policies, and the Trusts governing documents, the CEO is responsible for the Trusts management and direction, for representing the Trust in all matters and for providing leadership to the Trust.


Governance


Supporting the Board to maintain regulatory compliance (e.g., Charity Commission, Companies House) and adherence to the Code of Governance. Work with the Chair to ensure that the Governing Body formulates and regularly reviews and updates the charitys vision, mission, budgets and plans. Develop and implement plans to deliver the vision, mission and objectives of the Trusts Board. Assist the Board to conduct regular governance reviews and to identify, recruit and induct new trustees. Ensure that the Trust meets its legal, regulatory and governance obligations. Management
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the Trust is effectively and consistently managed. Ensure that the Trust achieves and sustains the Quality standards agreed by the Board. Ensure that the Trust recruits personnel appropriate to its needs at any time. Ensure the effective management and supervision of employees, consultants and volunteers. Draw up and manage budgets in accordance with the Boards decisions. Protect the Trusts funds and assets and ensure the effective management of risks. Promote and embed a culture of inclusive leadership across the Trust, ensuring that equality, diversity, inclusion, and staff wellbeing are prioritised and consistently reflected in organisational practices. Services
Raise funds to deliver the Trusts aims and achieve its targets, developing and maintaining diverse income streams. Oversee the delivery of targets required by the Trusts Board and funders. Ensure that statistics and reports are produced, processed and submitted as required. Ensure that the Trusts activities and services are delivered to a high quality. Ensure that activities and priorities are based on objective research into needs. Ensure that activities and procedures are documented and regularly reviewed to improve quality. Regularly secure feedback (from users, partners and stakeholders) and use this to assess needs and improve services. Culture and communications
Set the Trusts culture and tone and ensure these are consistent with the Trusts values and ethos. Speak on behalf of the Trust, representing it internally and externally. Establish effective partnerships and relationships to further the Trusts work. Manage the Trusts marketing and communications to enhance its reputation. Ensure broad external engagement through forums, networks, consortia, media, and stakeholder communications.

Knowledge


A good understanding of the legal framework covering charities, governance, employment, contracts, health and safety, equalities, operations. A good understanding of funding, income generation, policy frameworks, and national and local decision-making processes. A good understanding of public policy, politics and quality standards. A good understanding of accounting, strategy, planning and management. A good understanding of branding, marketing and communications. Skills
Excellent social and political skills: the ability to identify and interpret power relationships, the context of discussions, and hidden patterns and relationships. Excellent people and listening skills: help people to speak truthfully and articulate their needs or views, confident that you will listen and respond appropriately. Excellent skills in networking and negotiation: the ability to establish relationships, influence discussions and persuade or recruit people to your point of view. A high level of competency in ICT including for Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint. Social networks: competence and confidence operating on or within a range of different networks and platforms (Twitter, Facebook, etc). Excellent language skills including the ability to use plain English. Able to collate, analyse, manipulate and present complex data including numbers and budgets.

Excellent understanding of the voluntary, statutory and business sectors in Watford, Hertfordshire and nationally. Excellent knowledge of national infrastructure and support services and sources of information. A good understanding of the social, legal, economic and political environment within which voluntary organisations operate.

Able to calculate alternative future scenarios and prepare appropriate responses to different possible outcomes. The ability to work, understand, and exert influence within complex environments. The ability to understand technical or complex ideas and details, and to translate and communicate these to a range of different audiences.
