Job Role
We are seeking to appoint a kind, caring, and motivated Chief Operating Officer to join our team. You will be providing leadership in finance, operations, quality and compliance, culture and stakeholder engagement, the position covers our new homes in build in Herne Bay, Kent and Bowdon, Cheshire, with an exciting pipeline of new homes in both the North and South regions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Stewardship & Budgeting
Own and deliver the operational P&L for the care home group, setting and achieving financial targets in line with Board expectations.
Lead the annual budgeting process, including forecasting revenue (occupancy, fee income) and operational expenditure.
Monitor monthly/quarterly financial performance, identify deviation trends, and implement corrective actions to improve profitability and cash flow.
Drive cost-efficiency initiatives, balancing high-quality care delivery with tight financial control.
Collaborate with the CFO/Finance team on capital expenditure proposals, investment cases, and resource allocation.
Operational & Service Leadership
Oversee daily operations across all homes, driving excellence in care, safety standards, compliance, and performance metrics.
Implement consistent standard operating procedures and quality frameworks.
Empower managers through delegation, performance objectives, and accountability.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all homes meet CQC standards and other regulatory requirements.
Sustain internal compliance systems covering safeguarding, H&S, infection control, and audits.
Lead responses to incidents, inspection outcomes, and improvement plans.
Strategic Growth & Integration
Support in organic growth, oversee operational due diligence during acquisitions and smooth integration and commissioning processes.
Contribute to business case development for group expansion initiatives.
People & Culture
Build and cultivate a strong leadership team with clear accountability frameworks.
Drive workforce planning, training, recruitment, and retention strategies.
Foster a positive, person-centred culture guided by empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.
Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain strong relationships with commissioners, regulators, families, and external partners.
Oversee contract management and funding discussions for public/private care delivery.
Represent the organisation in industry forums, community partnerships, and regional networks.
Skills and Experience required
Professional qualifications - RN
Senior operational leadership within UK adult social care over multi-site care homes.
Proven experience managing budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and occupancy/P&L performance.
Deep knowledge of CQC standards and care sector regulations.
Strong leadership, financial literacy, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable:
Experience in acquisition integration and business case analysis.
Familiarity with digital care solutions and innovation.
