About the role





We are seeking a highly experienced and forward-thinking Chief Pharmacist who will also be the registered Superintendent Pharmacist to lead our online pharmacy operational governance and development. This is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, balanced with operational efficiency in a high-volume digital dispensing environment.


You will be the named Superintendent Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), overseeing governance, safety, and compliance across all pharmacy services, including overseeing our CQC-registered prescribing function.

Key Responsibilities



Act as the named Superintendent Pharmacist with the GPhC and Controlled Drug Accountable Officer. Lead regulatory applications (GPhC, CQC) and ensure inspection readiness. Develop and maintain SOPs, governance frameworks, and clinical safety protocols. Oversee online prescribing services, ensuring patient safety and compliance. Provide professional leadership and mentorship to pharmacy staff and prescribers. Liaise with the HR department to oversee and implement training and development programmes for pharmacy teams. Monitor prescribing trends, conduct risk assessments, and implement mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with GDPR, MHRA Blue Guide, and GPhC standards for online services. Collaborate with executive leadership to drive innovation and service expansion.

Qualifications & Experience





Essential



Minimum 5 years post-registration experience as a GPhC-registered pharmacist.

Held a Superintendent Pharmacist Position previously.

Proven track record in a high-volume online pharmacy environment, including distance-selling models.

Strong understanding of GPhC standards, MHRA regulations, and ASA advertising guidelines.

Experience managing large pharmacy teams and SOP compliance in digital settings.

Familiarity with tech-assisted prescribing and automation workflows.

Experience dealing with Board level, non-clinical executives.

Desirable


Experience ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including regulatory liaison and inspection readiness.

Direct involvement in setting up and managing a CQC-registered prescribing function, including oversight of independent prescribers and remote consultation protocols.

Experience with compounding medication, including formulation, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

Experience with governance frameworks and risk mitigation strategies for online prescribing.
