About Kibble
Kibble is Scotland's specialist provider of services for at risk children and young people. By providing a range of integrated services. We help to support children and young people as they learn and develop, preparing them for a positive future. The children that we care for have complex social, emotional and educational needs.
Job Purpose:
Kibble is recruiting Residential Child and Youth Care Workers (Sessional) for our established children's houses based at either Largs, Inverkip, Lochwinnoch and Johnstone. The posts involve working as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing a therapeutic trauma informed model of care to children aged 5-12 years.
We seek people who have a strong commitment to caring for children, who understand developmental trauma, and who are resilient, reflective and patient. You should be able to practice in a trauma sensitive way. You will be able to provide children with a sense of safety and connectedness and teach coping skills in the face of complex challenging behaviour.
Following social pedagogical principles, our Children need opportunities to problem solve and experiment with taking risks to challenge themselves physically and mentally. We recognise the powerful healing and developmental role of play in children's lives. Therefore, we are very keen to have people on board who are in touch with their inner child and are willing to be creative about and fully involved in, outdoor play, messy play, risky play, and the range of play opportunities we provide for our children.
This post will offer the successful candidate stability, with guaranteed hours, and the benefit of varied work. It is ideally suited to someone who has flexibility throughout the working week and weekends to work both early and back shifts. The varied shift pattern provides opportunity for the successful candidate to interact with a range of different employees and children and young people at Kibble.
Main Duties:
To encourage the personal development of each young person and, where appropriate, assisting in Unit routines, activities etc. with Unit colleagues.
To work as part of a designated staff team, operating at all times within Centre and Unit Policies.
To participate, as appropriate, in the unit communication system. This may be verbally e.g. at staff handovers, meetings, by telephone etc. or in written form e.g. log books, diaries and, where appropriate, case notes.
To work within appropriate personal and professional boundaries, ensuring all information regarding young people and staff is treated with appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitivity.
To provide a safe environment for all young people and staff by being vigilant at all times, complying with Health and Safety guidelines, and maintaining appropriate checks on young people and the unit environment.
To undertake any other relevant duties as directed by a senior staff member.
Key Skills and Experience:
A range of life experiences.
Able to form professional relationships with young people and staff.
Able to maintain a consistent, professional, and non-confrontational approach at all times.
A basic understanding of the issues confronting young people within Kibble.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Self-awareness.
Previous experience of working with young people is desirable.
A flexible approach to working is essential as the Centre operates 24/7, 365 days per year.
Possess a full driving licence and be willing and able to drive school transport.

The successful candidate will be subject to PVG Scheme Membership. Having previous convictions will not automatically disbar you from working at Kibble (with the exception of offences against children or other vulnerable groups) and every case is taken on an individual basis.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training and will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. The successful candidate must be able to participate fully in this training and be prepared to put this training into practice. The SCM training will consist of two days theory and two days physical training. The successful candidate must complete this training in full within four weeks of an agreed start date. Should the candidate for any reason fail any aspect of the SCM training (theory, physical or both parts), an additional two weeks will be given to pass.
Appointments will be subject to a twelve-month probationary period.
