Childcare Apprenticeship -

Leafield Pre-School (Term Time Only)




Shoots Training are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to complete their Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship at Leafield Pre-School, Leafield.


Leafield Pre-school was established in 1973 and is a registered charity run by a paid staff and a voluntary management committee. The intake of children is from the village itself and nearby communities. Children from the Pre-school move on to local primary schools in Leafield and the surrounding area. The Pre-school is a short walk from Leafield Primary School.


The Pre-school is located in a purpose-built annexe at the rear of Leafield village hall. We have an open plan classroom with a carpeted area. We also have a large outdoor area including an outdoor classroom space.


One of our great attractions, is that we are registered with Ofsted to care for a maximum of 16 children at any one time, meaning we can offer levels of care and attention difficult to achieve in bigger settings. We offer curriculum planned play-based activities aimed at progressing children's development and preparing them for school. We are registered and insured to care for children from the age of 2.

Your duties and responsibilities will include;




A desire to deliver a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years To ensure that the preschool is a safe environment for children, staff and others To help ensure the preschool always meets EYFS and Ofsted requirements

Leafield Preschool is a small preschool registered for a maximum of 16 children aged 2 - 5 years from Leafield and the surrounding areas. We are committed to delivering high quality childcare and early years education and because of our low numbers we are able to offer high levels of personal care and attention. Located in a purpose-built annex, behind the village hall, we have the luxury of a large outdoor space and garden which we use year-round. We have strong relationships within the community and often take trips around the village and welcome guests into preschool for talks or to read stories. This includes a strong bond with Leafield Primary school with whom we can share many experiences with which helps the children transition to school more easily


Purpose Of Role - To work as a key person and as part of the pre-school team under the direction of the manager with support from the deputy. To provide safe, high-quality education and care for young children which meets the individual needs of children attending the setting. Safeguarding requirement - Leafield Preschool is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is a requirement of all staff that they share this commitment and follow the prescribed policy and procedures to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding across the whole organisation


Main duties


To assist with the planning of the curriculum using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for guidance. To help to set up for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session. To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met. To work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members. To advise the Manager of any concerns, e.g. health and well-being of children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary. To take action to support the setting to achieve and maintain a minimum good Ofsted rating at the next inspection. To teach children, offering an appropriate level ofsupport and stimulating play experiences. To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures. To support meal times within the setting. To actively participate at team meetings, supervision meetings and appraisal meetings. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for personal development. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which is acquired as part of the job To be aware of and adhere to all the setting's policies and procedures, including those relating to confidentiality, equality and diversity, health and safety, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting, safeguarding, setting hygiene and whistleblowing. This is not an exhaustive list of the setting's policies and procedures. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly. To promote the setting to current parents and potential customers. To comply with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation. This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder will be required to undertake any other reasonable duties discussed and directed by the line manager. The post holder is also expected to be flexible and adaptable in their approach to fulfilling their duties.

Person Specification:


Previous experience of working with young children and Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Sound knowledge of child development from birth to five years. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. Be professional, reliable and committed to the role. An understanding of play-based approaches to children's learning and development. Good communication skill

Requirements;




A Level 2 Childcare qualification would be desirable or experience in a nursery setting Have GCSE grades A-C or 4-9 in Maths and English, or equivalent
An understanding of play-based approaches to children's learning and development

Hours;




Leafield Pre-school is open from 9:00am - 3:00pm Monday to Friday (Term Time Only) The successful candidate will be required to work 21 hours per week
