Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Barnhill After School Club, a vibrant and welcoming school age childcare service offering after school, breakfast and holiday club provision. We are searching for a dynamic, experienced, and enthusiastic individual for the key role of Childcare Business Manager. As the leader of our friendly team, you will play a crucial part in shaping the experiences of our children, team members, and the wider community we serve.

The Role: Childcare Business Manager



This is a unique and fulfilling opportunity for someone passionate about high-quality childcare and team leadership. As Childcare Business Manager, you will manage the day-to-day running of our after-school club, breakfast club, and out of school provision. You will be responsible for a skilled team of Practitioners and Support Workers, ensuring that every aspect of our service meets and exceeds the highest standards set by our organisation, local authorities, and national legislation. You will be responsible for overseeing child protection and safeguarding, ensuring child protection procedures are followed and that all staff are appropriately aware and informed of these procedures.

Key Responsibilities



Lead and manage the team to provide a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for children during out of school hours.

Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks, including local and national best practice guidance and legislation.

Champion the principles of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) and the SHANARRI indicators, ensuring the wellbeing, safety, and development of every child in our care.

Build and sustain strong, professional relationships with parents/carers, school and other local authority agencies.

Oversee administrative, business, and operational aspects of the club, including staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation.

Drive continuous improvement within the club, embracing innovation and new ideas to enhance children's play experiences and the club's overall effectiveness.

We are seeking someone who:

Has experience working in childcare or out of school care settings, ideally in a leadership or management role.

Is committed to inclusive practice, ensuring all children and families feel welcomed and valued within our club.

Is organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrates sound knowledge of GIRFEC, SHANARRI indicators, and the UNCRC.

Is comfortable coaching, supervising, and inspiring staff to deliver excellent childcare and playwork practice.

Possesses excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Has business management experience, which is desirable but not essential.

Essential Criteria

This role is classed as regulated work.

Eligibility for membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme; support for this process will be provided by the organisation.

Mandatory registration (and ongoing maintenance of registration) with the SSSC.

Relevant qualifications in line with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) requirements (or willingness to work towards achieving these).

Demonstrable knowledge of policies, procedures, and key legislative frameworks relevant to school age childcare.

Strong leadership skills and a commitment to supporting staff development.

Pay: From 17.39 per hour
