Are you committed to providing a high quality service to children who have a plan of adoption? Are you organised, able to manage a varied caseload, can work under pressure and use your own initiative?
The Adoption team in Leicester City is looking for a support worker to work alongside the social workers in the team, helping to identify adoptive families for children and to contribute to the recruitment of potential adopters who can meet the needs of the children we have to place for adoption.
Alongside the support worker, the adoption team has 8 social workers and a team manager and a team of business support workers.
The role of the adoption team in Leicester City is to recruit, assess and approve adopters for the children we have to place for adoption and to contribute to the wider pool of adopters in the regional Adoption Agency, Family Adoption Links.
To match and place children referred to the adoption team within their adoptive homes and the adoption team is committed to providing a timely and comprehensive service to children waiting to be placed in adoptive homes.
It is also an exciting time for the team and a time of change, as we move forward as a regional adoption agency and in your role you will have the opportunity to be a part of that change.
This position allows you to work remotely, using your laptop and mobile phone provided by the Council. However, you may be required to work from Halford House on occasion. You'll be required to attend and participate in Team Meetings and professional meetings, that involve working with colleagues and partner agencies.
This is a part time, permanent position working 32.5 hours. Core hours for the role isn't applicable as the Recruiting Manager is happy to work around your schedule, as long as you can commit to 32.5 hours over 5 days of the week on a pre-arranged rota between yourself and the Recruiting Manager at time of job offer. You must work at least two days a week and this must include either a Monday or Friday. You'll at times be required to work outside of normal working hours and will require a full driving license to complete visits to applicants' homes.
What you'll be doing
On a day to day basis you'll be required to help identify adoptive families for children. This includes writing profiles of the children and managing these profiles on a national website, keeping clear records of family finding activity. You'll be able to be creative in drawing up these profiles, using photos and being able to write about the children in a way which highlights their personalities, qualities and achievements alongside the challenges and specific needs the children may have.
Leicester City adoption team has recently become part of a Regional Adoption Agency called Family Adoption Links (FAL) and the post holder will be required to attend meetings (currently virtual) to identify possible families for children across the whole regional agency. You will be required to liaise with other family finders within Family Adoption Links.
As a Child Care Support Worker in the Adoption Team, you'll be responsible for supporting our Marketing and Recruitment Strategy, by attending virtual and face to face events, some of which will be out of office hours. You'll support the team in recruiting high quality potential adopters and as part of this role, you'll complete thorough initial visit assessments of potential adopters, understanding regulatory requirements for adopters.
You'll ensure the information and analysis you provide is of a high quality to enable the decision making of moving to a full adoption assessment. You will be working within a Signs of Safety framework and will assist the team in the continuing development of this model.
You'll be required to attend team meetings and take part in the team's duty system; answering calls and giving information to individuals about adoption and the adoption process as well as dealing with other general queries in relation to adoption. You will also be required to attend meetings organised by Family Adoption Links RAA
What you'll need
As the successful candidate you'll have a good knowledge of child development and the impact of trauma and poor early childhood attachment. You'll be able to demonstrate an ability to effectively manage your workload and competing priorities. You'll be able to undertake assessments, demonstrating good analytical skills. You'll be able to maintain up to date case records and deal effectively with enquiries from prospective adopters and members of a child's birth family as well as overall experience or ability to work with the public, both individuals and groups.
You'll be able to demonstrate excellent effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Alongside an ability to reflect on your work and will be able to work confidently, using your own initiative when needed.
You'll have experience of using IT software such as Word, Excel, Outlook.

Due to the nature of the role you'll be expected to work outside of normal office hours.
