About the Role
KASE Care is seeking a
dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled Children's Healthcare Assistant
to support a child with
complex medical needs
in the
Walthamstow area
. This role requires a confident and attentive individual who can provide one-to-one care within the home and community while prioritising safety, comfort, dignity, and wellbeing at all times.
The child has
high support needs across all aspects of daily living
, including mobility, feeding, hydration, medication, communication, positioning, and airway management. The successful candidate will be able to recognise and respond to non-verbal communication, observing changes in movement, vocalisation, and behaviour to understand the child's needs and emotional state.
Child's Medical Needs & Conditions
The child has the following diagnoses and care requirements:
Vein of Galen malformation
Ventriculomegaly
Brain injury following intracranial haemorrhage
Quadriplegic cerebral palsy
VP shunt
Severe visual impairment
Global developmental delay
Sleep disorder and sleep apnoea
Congenital heart differences (ASD with PAPVR - monitored by cardiology at GOSH)
Laryngomalacia
Gastro-oesophageal reflux, risk of aspiration, frequent vomiting
PEG feeding (MIC-KEY button)
Severe movement difficulties, including dystonia and spasms
History of hip surgery (March 2024)
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-level, child-centred care in line with care plans and clinical guidance
Support with
PEG feeding (MIC-KEY button)
, hydration, and medication administration
Monitor airway safety, breathing, reflux, and aspiration risks
Support safe positioning, transfers, and comfort at all times
Provide full personal care, maintaining dignity and respect
Recognise and respond appropriately to
non-verbal communication cues
Support safe access to the community, ensuring breathing, positioning, and comfort are always prioritised
Monitor for changes in health, behaviour, or condition and escalate appropriately
Maintain accurate daily records and communicate effectively with the wider care team
Always follow safeguarding policies and best practice
Essential Skills & Experience
Experience supporting
children with complex medical needs
Confidence in PEG feeding and medication administration
Strong understanding of airway management and aspiration risk
Experience with cerebral palsy and severe physical disabilities
Excellent observational skills and ability to interpret non-verbal communication
Calm, patient, and responsive approach to care
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to safeguarding and person-centred care
Desirable
Paediatric care experience in a home or community setting
Paediatric First Aid training
Experience working with children with neurological conditions
