Are you a caring, dependable person who enjoys making a difference in a young person's life?
This rewarding role involves providing companionship, personal care, and gentle support after school in a loving home environment. If you're kind, patient, and ready to build a meaningful connection, we'd love to hear from you!
About the role
I am looking for a confident, reliable, and caring individual to provide after-school support for my 14-year-old son.
He is a very happy, relaxed, and sociable young man who loves being around people. Although he is non-verbal, he communicates beautifully through facial expressions and sounds. He uses a wheelchair and has complex needs, so the right person will be patient, attentive, and enjoy spending time with young people with additional needs.
My son enjoys having stories read to him (especially Disney on his Toniebox!), going for walks, visiting the zoo, watching or listening to musicals, and--like any teenager--getting some good rest! He loves being at home with his family and our family dog, so an animal lover is a must.
About the role
The role will involve:
Meeting our son at home when he is dropped off after school
Helping him to change into comfortable clothes
Providing care and companionship until family members return home
Supporting with personal care, including dressing and pad changes
Using a hoist for transfers (training can be provided if needed)
If this sounds like the role for you, we'd love to hear from you!
The kind of person I am looking for
We are looking for someone who is:
Kind, reliable, and has a good sense of humour
Confident in supporting young people with disabilities (or willing to learn)
Comfortable with personal care tasks and using a hoist
Happy to engage and build a positive relationship with our son
Experience in care or support work would be an advantage, but full training can be provided for the right person.
