Job Summary and Duties



Working as a Team leader you will supervise and motivate a team of Residential Support Workers, whilst also completing a hands-on role to ensure the highest quality of care is offered to the children and young people , with learning disabilities (LD) in our care. You will design, implement and monitor the care and education plans in accordance with the individual needs of our children and young people to ensure that key life and independent skills are achieved in the enriching and positive environment we strive to create. You will bring experience of working in special educational needs (SEN) settings to support children and young people in care, with special educational needs and disability (SEND).Following a thorough induction and training programme, your duties will include:

Leading shifts and supervising junior members of staff

Leading a team that is passionate, committed and driven to achieve a high quality of service delivery

Delegating areas of responsibilities, in relation to support worker roles

Undertaking own areas of responsibilities and agreed delegated management responsibilities

Supporting the young people's emotional needs

Contributing towards maintaining a safe, warm and homely environment

JOB PURPOSE



To provide the highest quality of care and support as part of the care team to in accordance with Company policies, procedures and practices and standards set by the Regulatory Body.

KEY TASK AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



To participate in the rota for care of young people as part of the care team. To include:

Leading general upkeep and maintenance of the home

Ensuring effective and high-quality record keeping of the team

Supervision of team members

Accountability for effective completion of roles & responsibilities of your team

Personal care

Organising and participating in appropriate activities

Domestic duties including laundry

Cooking and shopping

Transporting Service Users to appointments and activities

Fulfil sleep-in duties in accordance with the agreed rota by the home manager.

Support and supervise the young people in the implementation of an individual programme of life skills, key skills and independence skills and leisure in their Home and the community.

Support young people within the Home in accordance with their personal/pathway/placement plans and the policies, procedures and practices of the home.

Effective and accurate and appropriate entries in young people's records, diaries and reports as necessary in accordance with Company and local policies, procedures and practices.

Support and enable young people to maintain a level of personal hygiene through offering guidance and support to develop their independence.

Work with and manage challenging behaviour, enabling young people to develop from needing external control to developing self-control.

Organise and participate in appropriate activities and enable young people to take part in a wide variety of activities.

Safeguard all young people within the Home and ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Administer medication in accordance with Company and Regulatory Body policies and procedures. Ensure that medication is stored in safe manner in accordance with policy.

Ensure effective record keeping of all financial transactions and ensure they are in accordance with individual placement agreements, and Company and Regulatory Body policies and procedures.

Check the daily diary and organise the appointments for that day as required, Ensure that all the relevant personal/pathway/placement plans for young people are in place, accurate and up to date Work positively and effectively with relatives, advocates and other professionals involved.

Support young people with completing and returning homework that's been set by education. Communicate effectively with education staff to ensure a consistent approach and to provide a daily link between School and Home.

Key SEND skills:



To have a good knowledge and understanding of learning disabilities, additional needs, autism and social communication needs for children and young people Promote and support the development of creative learning activities for children with additional needs SEN experience and able to use effective and creative resources to plan and support identified progress of children and young people with SEN needs Use effective resources to promote effective communication for both verbal and non verbal children and young people

Key Worker responsibilities:



To support the young people by acting as an internal advocate, involving them in every aspect of their car

Completing weekly key work sessions with allocated key child or other young people within the home. Key work session to be recorded and shared with the young people.

Support in the arrangements for contact and ensure that the young person's wishes and feeling are considered.

Staff



Undertake agreed delegated management responsibilities on an ongoing basis, in support of the Line Manager, for example supervisions, annual appraisals, probation reviews and return to work meetings.

Lead and supervise the staff on shift to ensure that they always carry out their duties and behave appropriately.

Report issues that have arisen in the day promptly to the relevant person.

Ensure staff always follow Company policies and procedures and feeding back as and when necessary.

Support all staff and ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Ensure and/or undertake verbal debriefs with staff as required and necessary and ensure relevant paperwork is completed.

Effectively hand over to other staff and teams as required.

Effective budget monitoring, as required as part of the role.

Delegate responsibilities, work and tasks based on competence of staff and needs of the Company and review in order to promote teamwork and communication.

Ensure that any areas of insufficient staffing levels are reported to the relevant manager and that cover is provided to meet shortfalls.

Assist in the training and ongoing development of staff.

Attend and chair formal reviews and Person-Centred Planning meetings as delegated.

Ensure that staff exhibit the values set out by the Company and uphold standards of behaviour in accordance with Company policies.

General



Ensure awareness that the service operates to agreed budgets and contribute to keeping within these budgets as instructed.

Exercise vigilance in respect of Health and Safety and promptly report all hazards and/or remedying them where appropriate. Undertake all duties in a manner calculated to minimise or avoid unnecessary risks, personally or to others.

Report issues and/or incidents relating to staff and young people that have arisen in the day promptly to the relevant Line Manager or appropriate person.

Always operate in accordance with Company policies and procedures, with particular reference to Safeguarding, Child Protection, Whistleblowing, Complaints and Representations and Behaviour Policies.

Participate in training and take responsibility for personal development. Participate in team meetings, supervisions and annual reviews in accordance with Company policy and the standards set by the Regulatory Body.

Work to promote the Home as a valued, professional asset within its community and conduct themselves at all times in a manner that reinforces this image.

Ensure that all actions are in the best interests of the young people and the wider organisation.

To work to and exhibit the POSITIVE values of the Company and maintain standards of behaviour in accordance with Company policies, procedures and practices.

To carry out any other reasonable and relevant duties as required by the management of the home and wider management of the organisation.

Please note candidates MUST have experience of working in a Residential Children's Home. Must hold a minimum of Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Children and Young People's Workforce. A Level 5 would be desirable. Salary can be negotiated dependent on qualification.
