About Material Index

Material Index is a fast-growing, sustainability-focused technology company working on the circular economy in the construction industry.

We are a mission to transform the built environment through large-scale material reuse; 'turning waste into assets' via an online marketplace. Construction accounts for 50% of UK landfill and 14% of global CO2 emissions every year.

Our in-house software allows us to rapidly catalogue materials in a building and sell these 'assets' via our online platform, prior to demolition.

Demand for our product and service has grown rapidly and the opportunity in this space is huge. We are seeking a motivated, self starter to drive business development within the brokering team as we build towards a full scale marketplace. This is your chance to get in early, make an impact, and grow with us.

About the Role

We are seeking someone to join the brokering team who will be focused on making the 'deal' happen, through outreach, reseller partnership creation, and closing an opportunity. This person needs to be motivated, confident, sociable, competitive on sales, organised for handling multiple leads and pro-active to chase new partnerships.

We're looking for someone with hands-on experience in construction materials who can hit the ground running and is passionate about driving material reuse forward.

What You'll Do

Sales: Be deal focused, and close opportunities quickly. The role is fast-paced and you will need to be very reactive to in-bound requests. Outreach & Partnership Building: Proactively seek out and engage new clients and partners, building strong, lasting relationships. The role includes outreach via networking events, site visits, calls and emails and other outbound channels. Operations: Each project and material sale we manage is unique, requiring a deep understanding of logistics to ensure successful execution. This may include coordinating site access, transportation, and project team collaboration to navigate the complexities of each exchange. Marketplace Growth: Collaborate with the team to refine and scale our marketplace platform. Material Knowledge: Understand the resale values and opportunities between different building materials. Tech Development: Boost sales and productivity with tech development, between outreach and internal tools. Hands-On Support: Be ready to jump in where needed as we scale the company.

Sales-Oriented: A natural at finding opportunities and closing deals. Material Knowledge: Knowledge of construction materials and building techniques. Understand the resale values and opportunities between different building materials. People Person: Excellent at building relationships and understanding client needs. Sustainability-Minded: Passionate about reducing waste and promoting reuse in construction. Agile Mindset: Able to adapt to different scenarios, logicaly understand current challenges and devise practical solutions. Organised: Ability to stay on top of multiple deals and devise processes to make exchanges happen. Resourceful & Proactive: Thrives in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment. Industry Experience (a Plus): Background in construction, fit-out, demolition, landscape, salvage, architecture or similar industries is helpful but not required. Hands on: Get involved, and do anything to ensure your exchange happens.
