Stepford Contracts Ltd is a growing civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering highways, public realm, drainage and general civil engineering works for local authority and public sector clients. We are seeking a highly experienced Project Manager to join our delivery team and take responsibility for the successful planning, coordination and delivery of civil engineering projects from pre-start through to completion.
This is a senior, hands-on role suited to an individual with extensive industry experience, capable of managing programme delivery, commercial performance, health and safety compliance and client relationships, including working under NEC forms of contract.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management and delivery of civil engineering projects, including programme planning, progress monitoring and reporting. The role will involve day-to-day management of site operations, including direct labour, plant and subcontractors, together with technical oversight to ensure works are delivered accurately and in accordance with drawings and specifications.
The role will include the administration and management of NEC contracts, cost and budget management, and the tracking and control of labour, plant and material expenditure against agreed budgets. The Project Manager will also be responsible for the preparation, review and implementation of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Construction Phase Plans, ensuring full compliance with health and safety legislation, company procedures and client requirements.
The Project Manager will liaise with clients, designers, statutory bodies and internal management teams, monitor quality, productivity and programme performance, and support commercial reporting and forecasting in conjunction with senior management.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must have a minimum of 15 years' experience within the civil engineering or construction industry, with proven experience working as a Project Manager on civil engineering projects. Candidates must demonstrate previous experience managing projects under NEC contracts and be proficient in the interpretation of construction drawings.
Applicants must have strong capability in managing project costs and budgets, including the tracking and control of labour, plant and materials. Experience producing Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Construction Phase Plans is essential. Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills are required, along with a full UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
A civil engineering or construction-related qualification such as HNC, HND or degree is desirable. Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer would be advantageous, along with proficiency in Microsoft Project for programme planning and progress management. Experience delivering works for local authority or other public sector clients is desirable, as is a strong understanding of NEC commercial and reporting procedures.
