About the Role


The Claims Manager is responsible for managing professional liability claims against insurance intermediaries (brokers and managing general agents) and provide support for risk management projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing high-value, complex, and litigated claims, providing expert legal and technical advice, and ensuring the efficient and successful resolution of disputes. The position requires working closely with Members, underwriters, risk managers, external counsel and external stakeholders to deliver a professional, service-oriented approach to claims management. The role involves keeping abreast of industry and legal developments, contributing to internal risk management programmes, and attending key meetings to review claims and exchange critical information.





Your Responsibilities

Conduct initial review and assessment of claims and circumstances notified by Members and advising on potential liability. Liaise with Members and manage external counsel instructed to act on their/the Association's behalf. Ensure effective and efficient resolution of claims. Keep underwriters informed and updated on claim reserves and potential exposure under the Rules. Monitor and stay up to date with legal and industry developments relevant to insurance intermediaries. Provide legal and technical advice on liability issues and produce clear and concise reports for senior management and Members. Support and contribute to the Association's risk management programme as required. Attend and actively contribute to internal meetings to discuss major claims and share information.

About You


Knowledge/Experience
Extensive experience managing high-value, complex and litigated professional indemnity claims, particularly defending insurance intermediaries (and other professionals). Strong technical knowledge, defence strategy and proven track record handling high-value claims within the insurance industry or a law firm setting.
Qualifications/Education
LLB (or equivalent) graduate. Legally qualified in the UK or through the Solicitor Qualifying Examination (SQE).

Skills
Proven ability to manage complex, high-value, and litigated claims effectively. Strong legal analysis and problem-solving skills. Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Members and external counsel. Skilled in balancing multiple priorities across a busy caseload while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency in legal research and use of relevant case law to support claims management.
