Main Purpose:
To safely operate Class 1 HGV vehicles in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and company requirements. The role ensures the efficient delivery and collection of goods while maintaining high standards of vehicle safety, load security, roadworthiness, and customer service.
To safely operate a Truck Mounted Forklift (TMF) in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate Class 1 HGV vehicles safely and in accordance with UK road traffic laws.
Collect, transport, and deliver goods to customers within agreed schedules, using TMF when required on VEKA Recycling and customer sites.
Ensure that goods are correctly loaded, secured, and unloaded in line with safety regulations.
Driving other vehicle types dependant on business needs Vehicle Safety and Maintenance:
Conduct daily walk-round inspections of vehicles, including TMF, including checking tyres, lights, brakes, and securing mechanisms.
Report any defects, damage, or mechanical issues to the Transport Coordinator immediately.
Ensure vehicles are clean, fuelled, and maintained in line with company and DVSA standards.
Comply with tachograph regulations and complete all driver records accurately.
Ensure all loads are properly secured using appropriate straps in line with HAUC, RHA, and Logistics UK guidance.
Carry out vehicle load checks before departure to prevent load shift, spillage, or damage during transit.
Understand and comply with legal weight, dimension, and restraint requirements (as per GOV.UK and DVSA).
Report any unsafe or incorrectly secured loads immediately and take corrective action before commencing the journey.
Follow all company policies on vehicle operations, health and safety, and driver conduct.
Maintain accurate delivery documentation, including delivery notes, manifests, and customer signatures. Report any incidents, delays, or accidents promptly.
Ensure compliance with Driver CPC, tachograph rules, and other relevant legislation (as per GOV.UK guidance)
Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, suppliers, and the public.
Person Specification
Skills & Qualification:
Valid Class 1 HGV licence with a Driver CPC.
Proven experience driving HGVs safely, preferably in a logistics or delivery environment. Ability to complete vehicle inspections and basic defect reporting.
Valid TMF licence.
Understanding of tachograph rules and safe working hours regulations.
