Reporting directly to the Manging Director the driver is responsible for providing a hands on approach to providing a safe and secure Night Trunk Service. Checking Load security before commencing any journey, adhering to all SSOW and site rules both at base and Network hub locations.
Pulling double deck trailers to and from base and designated hubs.
This role requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and the ability to manage hub arrival times effectively.
Main Duties
Trunking of Palletised freight on double deck trailers from base to designated hubs
To be ultimately responsible for the safe carriage of the load within the vehicle. Ensuring all freight is sufficiently strapped and secured before commencement of any journey.
To always be responsible for the security of the vehicles including in transit, stationary and if on overnight stays. The vehicle must always be locked and secured when unattended at any time.
To ensure that the allocated vehicle or trailer is roadworthy in line with Road traffic legislation by completing daily pre and after use vehicle checks. Reporting all defects to the Compliance Manager.
Ensure full compliance with all Tachograph and WTD drivers' hours regulations
Ensure all trunk arrival times are adhered to at all times. Any unavoidable delays must be reported immediately to the Operations Team
Driving safely whilst obeying all traffic laws and regulations
Experience
Proven experience in commercial driving
Valid HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) licence with a clean driving record,
Valid CPC and Driver Tacho Card
Previous experience as a trunk driver is advantageous but not mandatory.
Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
