This position will be based within the Transport department where you will be required to drive an HGV vehicle, delivering various items of plant & equipment to our own sites and also to external customers. You will be responsible for the loading of vehicles to ensure all plant & equipment is loaded safely and secured adequately for transit and to minimise the risk of damage.
The role will require you to have regular contact with site personnel and provide exceptional customer service, whilst ensuring that all plant & equipment arrives at the delivery site safely.
Due to current and future workloads, applicants must already be experienced in loading/unloading Excavators, Dumpers, Telehandlers etc. Applicants must also be familiar with the use of chains and straps for securing plant to vehicles.
Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:
Carry out loading of vehicles so that items are safely loaded and secured for transit and to minimise the risk of damage
Drive allocated vehicles safely and in compliance with legislative requirements
Drive in accordance with tachograph laws and driver hour limits
Ensure allocated vehicles are not subject to unnecessary damage
Comply with Companywide fuel efficiency directives
Maintain the cleanliness of the driving cab and general tidy appearance of allocated vehicles
Ensure on arrival that a delivery is safe to make, respecting site rules and customer's property; if in doubt consulting with site staff/customers and/or Transport Manager
Check goods off with sites and obtain proof of delivery or collection
Handle any customer issues efficiently, contacting Transport Manager for assistance as required
Record any errors or damage accordingly and consult with Transport Manager
Report any accidents as soon as possible, in accordance with the Company's accident reporting procedure
Complete and record daily vehicle checks
Provide excellent customer service at all times and be an ambassador for the Company
Be aware of vehicle inspection rotas for servicing and MOT
Attend and complete essential training as required
Keep abreast of existing and new legislation in relation to duties and responsibilities
Provide support in the Yard as required by the Yard Manager
Essential Qualifications/Desired Work Experience:
Hold a full clean LGV (Class 2) licence
Have a valid Driver Qualification card (DCPC)
Hold valid Digital Tachograph card
Must have a minimum of 12 months driving experience
Must have previous experience of plant operation and use of loading chains/straps
Additional Skills and Qualities:
Be physically active due to the nature of the role
Basic IT Skills required to use device to update company system
Excellent communication skills
Ability to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism
A positive 'can-do' attitude and the ability to be a keen team player
Hours and Environment: 6.00am till 4.30pm. Minimum of 50 hrs per week. Due to the nature of this role, employees are expected to be co-operative in working outside their normal hours as necessary to cope with varying situations and workloads.
