Classroom Assistant



Hours:



8:30am-3:30pm (Monday-Friday) although he/she must be prepared to be flexible with regard to working hours and be capable of adjustment to events and demands. The post is term-time only.

Purpose of role:



The role requires a candidate that will provide a quality of care and welfare for pupils, support the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom and supporting this by preparing classroom materials and creating displays and maintaining effective organisation and use of resources. The candidate will support the needs of pupils in effectively accessing the curriculum.

The candidate will be required to assist with Junior School break and lunch duties, school day and residential trips and will be part of a team providing wrap-around care for pupils at the end of the school day.

Essential

The ideal candidate will:

Have a PVG membership in relation to working with children.

Have experience of working with primary aged children.

Have the ability to mix easily with people of any culture or background in a professional and friendly manner.

Have exceptional communication skills matched with an enthusiastic and personable demeanour at all times.

Be confident working independently as well as part of a team.

Be a team player with empathy and a very positive and 'can do' attitude.

Ability to be flexible and respond to changing needs.

Desirable

The ideal candidate will:

Understand and be engaged in the ethos of Kelvinside Academy.

Have experience of working in a school environment.

Have experience of working as a classroom assistant.

Hold a professional development classroom assistant award.

Have experience of administrative tasks in a school setting.

Have basic knowledge of first aid.

Experience of food handling and hygiene.

Hold a clean UK driving licence and be willing to drive a school minibus

Salary will be according to qualifications and experience. Applicants should also be, or eligible to become, a PVG Scheme member.
