Clay shooting has become one of the school's most popular activities, attracting enthusiastic participation from pupils in Years 7 to 13. The school now seeks a dedicated and personable Clay Shooting Coach to deliver both individual and group sessions, inspire young shooters, and continue the success of our competitive clay shooting team on Thursdays (for licensing reasons).
This role is ideal for a friendly, patient coach who enjoys working with young people, fosters a safe and encouraging environment, and has a passion for helping pupils develop their skills and confidence in the sport.
Responsibilities
Deliver engaging and progressive clay shooting coaching sessions for pupils in Years 7-13.
Oversee both group activity sessions and individual lessons, ensuring all participants are supported and challenged appropriately.
Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes enjoyment and respect for the sport.
Prepare and maintain all necessary equipment (guns, clays, safety gear, etc.) for each session.
Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, and safeguarding requirements, including supervision ratios and secure gun handling.
Support the coordination and coaching of the school clay shooting team in home and away fixtures, travelling with pupils as required.
Encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal responsibility among pupils.
Liaise with the school's sports and co-curricular staff to maintain accurate attendance, performance, and incident records.
Attend relevant safeguarding training and maintain an up-to-date DBS check.
Contribute to the continued growth and success of the clay shooting programme.
Requirements
Proven experience in sports coaching or teaching roles, with a strong understanding of the specific sport or activity
Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others
Strong organisational skills to plan sessions effectively and manage multiple groups simultaneously
Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as required for training sessions or competitions
A recognised coaching qualification or relevant teaching certification is desirable but not essential
Commitment to promoting a safe, inclusive environment that encourages participation
A proactive attitude with a passion for helping others develop their skills and confidence
