Cleaning Operative New Builds

Halesworth, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Summary of the Role

A new build cleaner is responsible for meticulously cleaning newly constructed or renovated properties to a high standard, preparing them for final inspection, client handover, or for residents to move in. This role goes beyond standard domestic cleaning, as it involves removing industrial dust, debris, paint splashes, and other residue left by construction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Deep Cleaning All Surfaces:

This is the most crucial part of the job. It involves:

Wiping down and cleaning fittings to remove dust and smudges. Thoroughly cleaning all windows, window frames, sills, and tracks, removing any paint, plaster, or stickers. Cleaning and polishing all fixtures and fittings, including light switches, sockets, faucets, doorknobs, and handles. Deep cleaning of kitchens and bathrooms, sanitizing all surfaces, appliances, sinks, toilets, showers, and tubs. Wiping down the inside and outside of all cabinets, drawers, and built-in units.
The cleaning process is often broken down into different phases, from a rough clean to a final "sparkle clean."

Floor and Carpet Care:

Sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping all floors to remove all dust, dirt, and paint residue. Removing any stubborn stains or marks from hard floors. Vacuuming carpets thoroughly, and in some cases, using a carpet cleaner to remove dust and debris.

Final Touches ("Sparkle Clean"):

This is the final stage, where the cleaner goes back over every surface to ensure it is immaculate. Polishing all glass and mirrored surfaces to be streak-free. A final dusting of every nook and cranny. Ensuring the property is fully presentable and "move-in ready."

Skills and Experience Required

This role requires more than just general cleaning skills. The ideal candidate should have:

Previous Experience:

Experience in post-construction or new build cleaning is highly desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the specific challenges of the job.

Attention to Detail:

An exceptional eye for detail is essential, as the final clean must be flawless.

Physical Fitness and Stamina:

The job can be physically demanding, involving bending, lifting, and working on your feet for extended periods.

Knowledge of Cleaning Products and Equipment:

Familiarity with heavy-duty cleaning products and industrial equipment (e.g., wet/dry vacuums, floor buffers) is a plus.

Health and Safety Awareness:

A strong understanding of health and safety protocols on a construction site is critical.

CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme):

A valid CSCS card is often a mandatory requirement for working on live construction sites in the UK.

Reliability and Punctuality:

Since new builds often work to strict deadlines, the ability to be on time and complete tasks efficiently is vital.

Working Environment

The role is typically based on new build housing developments or construction sites. The work may involve different properties on the same site, each in a different stage of the cleaning process. The role may require working independently or as part of a small team.
