We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to lead our Client Affairs Team within the Adults and Health Directorate. This pivotal role is responsible for the efficient and effective delivery of a comprehensive financial affairs function, including Court of Protection Deputyship, DWP Appointeeship, and property protection duties.
As the Court-appointed Deputy for Property and Affairs under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, you will act on behalf of vulnerable clients, safeguarding their financial interests and ensuring full compliance with statutory obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all aspects of the Deputyship and Appointeeship functions, including property sales, benefit maximisation, court attendance, and financial reporting.
Oversee statutory responsibilities under the Public Health Control of Diseases Act 1984, including property protection and funeral arrangements.
Manage and develop a team of Client Affairs Officers, ensuring high standards of performance, training, and professional development.
Maintain robust systems for financial monitoring, reporting, and audit compliance.
Liaise with legal services, financial advisors, government departments, and statutory agencies to ensure effective service delivery.
Provide expert advice and guidance across the Council on client affairs, promoting best practice and financial control.
Lead on the preparation of statutory returns, management reports, and policy reviews.
Attend safeguarding reviews and strategy meetings, representing the financial interests of clients.
About You
You will be a confident decision-maker with a strong understanding of financial management, statutory responsibilities, and safeguarding principles. You'll bring excellent leadership skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to navigate complex legal and financial frameworks.
Essential Skills and Experience
Proven experience in managing client affairs, including Deputyship and Appointeeship functions.
Strong knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and related legislation.
Experience in team leadership, performance management, and service development.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and statutory compliance.
