Hours:

Average 20.8 hours per week (Monday - Thursday), plus 1 in 4 Saturdays and 1 in 12 Sundays (at our Purleigh and Althorne practices)


We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent receptionist to join our busy team at Edgewood Veterinary Group in Althorne.


You must be a friendly, caring, hardworking, enthusiastic individual who can manage time efficiently. The ability to multi-task is essential and you need to be able to remain calm under all circumstances. Computer skills are also essential to this role.


You must be a strong team player who is willing to provide excellent service to our clients and their pets. You will need great communication skills as a receptionist's role is extremely important in the smooth running of the day to day tasks between clients and our clinical staff.


You will be public facing and must remain professional at all times.

Roles and Responsibilities



The duties will involve:

Open of the reception area. Turning on lights and any necessary electricals, opening the doors, unlocking tils, cupboards and dispensary. Having the area set up for the day. Close of reception area. Locking dispensary, tils or doors, ensuring any money is correctly stored and turning off lights and any electricals which need to be off when closed. Answering the telephone Organising client appointments Organising the smooth running of the appointment book, liaising with other team members and client's if things are delayed Dealing with members of the public, our team, and any stakeholders to help them with enquiries or questions Taking any client requests for repeat medication or food, accurately setting them up on the system and preparing them ready for client collection Dispensary duties - drawing up/measuring out medication. Pay attention to countersigning procedures Taking payments and being responsible for ensuring the correct amount is requested, taken, and then added onto the system. End of day report and financial reconciliations as applicable General housekeeping and care of the reception area, wating room, client toilets and consult rooms when needed. Stock monitoring. Noting down any short dated, expired, or low stock Dealing with any items or letter to post. Using the franking machine, storing and then dispatching the franked mail correctly Keeping on top of client reminders for routine and next day appointments Any other duties reasonably requested

Based in Essex, Edgewood has surgeries in Purleigh and Maldon, plus a new clinic in Althorne. This is a part of Essex where Linnaeus had no presence, enabling us to help more pets in a new part of the UK.


Edgewood is an RCVS-accredited small animal general practice, and its Purleigh and Maldon branches are also accredited as cat-friendly clinics. Having invested in its facilities and fantastic team, Edgewood offers a range of treatments and services including digital x-rays, endoscopy, ultrasound, an in-house laboratory and an operating theatre. It has welcoming consult rooms and separate dog and cat wards.
