The NHS 111 Clinical Advisor provides safe, effective, and patient-centred clinical assessment and advice to members of the public via telephone and digital platforms. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder uses advanced clinical knowledge and decision-support systems to assess symptoms, determine clinical priority, and direct patients to the most appropriate level of care. The role involves delivering high-quality clinical advice, supporting health advisors, and contributing to the delivery of timely, accessible urgent and emergency care services. Clinical Advisors are responsible for maintaining professional standards, ensuring patient safety, and promoting positive patient experiences in line with NHS values and clinical governance frameworks.
Responsibilities
Undertake comprehensive clinical assessments of patients via telephone and digital platforms using NHS Pathways and professional clinical judgement.
Provide safe, evidence-based clinical advice, reassurance
Determine clinical priority and disposition, ensuring patients are directed to the most appropriate level of care.
Identify red flags and escalating clinical risk, taking appropriate action in line with local and national protocols.
Manage a wide range of urgent and non-urgent conditions across all age groups.
Document accurate, timely, and legally sound clinical records in accordance with information governance requirements.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including clinicians, health advisors, and external healthcare providers.
Escalate safeguarding concerns for adults and children in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and comply with professional registration and revalidation requirements.
Qualifications
Registered healthcare professional with a recognised professional body (e.g.
NMC
,
HCPC
, or
GPhC
).
Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant healthcare discipline (e.g. Nursing, Paramedic Science, Pharmacy).
Current professional registration with no restrictions to practice.
Evidence of ongoing
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
in line with professional requirements.
Pathways trained
