Clinical Director fixed term contract - 1 year/ substantive Consultant Psychiatrist
We have a total of five Clinical Director posts available in each of our Directorates Acute, Forensic and Specialist, North, East and West. The five Clinical Director posts are open for recruitment currently. Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist posts are available in specialties across the Trust.
The Clinical Director will work in close partnership with the Service Director and will be responsible for delivery of outstanding care, alongside providing the leadership to support local governance, safety, quality assurance and operational and strategic developments.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Director will also be responsible for providing leadership as the Chair for one of the five Communities of Practice (CoP). The Clinical Director will be instrumental in leading the specific Community of Practice and work in collaboration with chairs of the other communities of practice for integrated working.
The CD will provide clinical leadership in building a culture of continuous improvement of services embedding quality improvement in the Directorate and this will be through one dedicated weekly session for the doing well together programme with the Improvement Team.
The Clinical Director responsibilities will comprise 0.4 WTE of this role. Patient-facing clinical work will comprise the remainder of working time available.
Medical Staff will be engaged on a 10 PA contract with an additional remuneration of 2 PAs for the Clinical Director role. A list of clinical consultant psychiatrist roles are available from the medical staffing team and your application can be moved over to this role to support your CD application.

The five Communities of Practice are Older Peoples Mental Health, Community Mental Health, Recovery and Reintegration, Urgent Care and Hospital Liaison and Forensic and Specialist Services.
The Community of Practice is a community of clinicians and managers with the knowledge and skills in a specialist area who can lead on best practice and can ensure we retain the specialism of our services at KMPT.

Person Specification
Qualifcations
Essential

  • Current professional registration -MRCPsych/RMN/LD/Occupational Therapist/ Clinical Psychologist
  • Evidence of post registration training and development
  • Formal management/leadership qualification or equivalent level of experience and proven ability to perform at this strategic level
Knowledge/Experience
Essential
  • Proven experience of clinical or professional leadership role within services
  • Sound understanding and evidence of driving change and improvements
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders in the redesign of services
  • Ability to engage with staff and motivate to improve performance.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act legislation
Skills
Essential
  • Ability to communicate clearly and openly with staff at all levels, from the Executive Team to frontline staff.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • An open and facilitative style of leadership
  • Ability to hold others to account
  • Positive use of self-reflection and commitment to team working and continuous learning
  • An excellent understanding of effective systems for integrated governance and the management of clinical and non-clinical risks.
