Help Shape Our New Home at S.T.A.R Vets

Appleby Magna, Derbyshire/Leicestershire border

depending on experience

Full-time

Independent, small animal, family-run practice

New, purpose-built premises opening late 2025

We are

S.T.A.R Vets

- that stands for

Support, Therapy and Rehabilitation

- and we're building something a bit special.

We're a genuinely independent, family-run small animal practice with a big focus on kind, thoughtful, evidence-based care. Our team is growing, and our client base is too - so we're getting ready to move into our

brand new, purpose-built practice

later this year.

As part of that move, we're

splitting our first opinion and rehabilitation services

into two separate spaces to allow each to flourish -- and now we're looking for a brilliant

Clinical Lead Vet

to help shape the future of our first opinion team.

What's different about us?

We're not corporate. We don't run on targets. And we really care about our patients, clients and team.

Here's what you can expect:

A fully equipped first opinion practice with all the usual toys and endoscopy on its way soon!

A calm, friendly working environment where animal comfort always comes first

A 21-strong team of vets, nurses, care assistants and receptionists who support each other and genuinely love what they do (well...most days!)

Plans in place to become RCVS Accredited, and Fear Free & Pain Free Certified

A strong focus on collaborative, multi-disciplinary care

Access to our Referral Rehab Clinic (S.T.A.R Rehab Referrals)

The role:

We're looking for someone who's confident, kind, and excited to help build a modern first opinion service.

You'll be:

Leading, mentoring and supporting our first opinion vets and nurses

Helping shape clinical protocols and team culture with the directors and practice manager

Doing what you love - whether that's consulting, surgery, mentoring or a bit of everything

Encouraging a relaxed, positive, no-blame atmosphere where everyone can thrive

You'll fit in if you:

Are an MRCVS (+/- CertAVP) with solid experience in first opinion practice

Enjoy working as part of a close-knit, collaborative team

Want to step into leadership but still enjoy the hands-on side

Like the sound of a Fear Free, Pain Free, wellbeing-focused workplace

Are down to earth, open-minded, and happy to get stuck in

What we offer:

75+K salary, depending on experience

Pension Scheme

Optional long-term sickness insurance

VDS and MRCVS fees paid

Generous CPD budget, plus support for leadership training or certificates

No out-of-hours or on-call

A 4-day week with 1 in 4 Saturday mornings (4 hrs)

6 weeks holiday plus bank holidays

A say in how we grow, not just a seat at the table

Support from our Referral Rehab Clinic just minutes away - packed with kit, expertise, and collaborative case support
