Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced, and forward-thinking nurse to lead and enhance the Ophthalmology services at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. This pivotal role offers the chance to contribute to the strategic and operational development of a busy and diverse multi-site service.



The Ophthalmology department includes high-volume outpatient clinics, orthoptic services, pre-operative assessment, laser treatments, and dedicated ophthalmology operating theatres. Notably, our Heatherwood site hosts a nationally recognised High Volume Low Complexity (HVLC) cataract surgery centre.



The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Senior Nursing Team, Service Managers, Orthoptic Lead, Ophthalmology Consultants, and the wider multidisciplinary team. Their primary focus will be to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care and to support and develop the nursing workforce to uphold and exceed world-class standards of care and patient experience.



This is an excellent opportunity for a registered nurse with extensive ophthalmology experience including advanced ophthalmic nursing practice to work strategically within a busy and complex Trust.



The successful candidate will have specific clinical sessions within the ophthalmology service as well as time to lead and assist in the development of the wider ophthalmology service.

Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, with the ability to motivate others, to identify innovative ways of working and enact positive change.

KEY RESULT AREAS:



Professional/ Clinical



To provide an innovative, creative, and developmental style of management promoting patient centred practice. To implement initiatives using best practice guidelines, i.e. nurse led clinics for ophthalmic trained and non-ophthalmic trained nursing staff. To ensure all staff members and oneself to keep up to date with current evidence based clinical practice and research and comply with professional guidelines To represent the department on Trust wide meetings. To be flexible and adaptable in order to respond to the clinical needs of the Trust and its users. To ensure that all staff adhere to infection control policy and best practice. To initiate actions relating to cleanliness, patient environment and infection control Work proactively to address, investigate, action and respond to adverse events and complaints. Ensure that all staff treat patients with Privacy and Respect.

Managerial /Leadership and Clinical Governance



To provide highly visible, clear, strong, facilitative, and effective leadership offering support and advice to Ophthalmic Practitioners, Nursing Team, Orthoptists and Junior doctors, flagging any concerns to the AHP consultant/Lead ophthalmologist To act as a professional role model working with the AHP Consultant to facilitate the development of the skills in ophthalmology for oneself and the clinical team. Lead by example to motivate and empower others, ensuring the highest standards of care. To lead in the promotion of the fundamental aspects of patient care measuring baselines, comparing practices, and sharing best practice to improve the patient experience. Demonstrate an ability to work across organisational and professional boundaries. To actively engage in Clinical Governance Forums and Audit and ensuring that the principles of clinical governance are implemented at local level. To assist in developing, utilising, and implementing new protocols and guidelines in line with Trust Policy. To facilitate changes in clinical areas, teams, and patient workload. * To provide and preserve a positive reputation, providing a clinically credible workforce with a high level of motivation
