Purpose of job:
To assist the department in the provision of advice to the firm's clients. The role of the Paralegal is to work alongside the fee-earners in the Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury team with respect to any aspect of their caseload with which assistance is needed. This may include both large, complex cases as well as smaller cases. The Paralegal is expected to be able to produce typewritten documents without the need for secretarial support.
Matter set up to include opening the file on Mattersphere, generating and assembling the electronic file, conflict checks, triage and setting up the first appointment.
Managing new client enquiry emails and calls, completing triage forms and presenting them to the team
Obtaining, logging and managing medical records, using the document management system (Medbrief)
Updating the Temple Insurance case management system (TOPS)
Arranging conferences with experts and barristers
Identifying appropriate medical experts for the case
Chasing expert reports
Obtaining and chasing medical records from GPs, private and NHS hospitals and self-employed doctors
Organisation and preparation of conferences with experts and barristers
Completing research on the value of claims using legal databases and research tools
Dealing with arrangements for round table meetings
Conference preparation: liaising with Experts, barristers' clerks and clients
Drafting and sending routine correspondence
Preparing schedules of past losses collating/filing bundle of receipts and other documents
Preparing core bundles for hearings, conferences and trials
Preparing detailed attendance notes
Taking detailed notes at departmental meetings and occasionally at new client meetings
Assisting generally with case administration and document management
* Participating in marketing events.
