Job Description

The post holder will perform basic cardiological investigations unsupervised and will undertake work-based training in a wide range of techniques. The post holder will have completed an approved course. It is anticipated that the post holder will have developed a sufficient level of knowledge and skill to be eligible for state registration within two years of appointment



The post holder will be expected to perform all non-invasive cardiac investigations, to include exercise tolerance testing, 24 hour Holter analysis and assistance in exercise stress echos. They will also provide support during cardiac catheterisation procedures and pacemaker implantation, and device clinic support with training as appropriate.

To demonstrate technical proficiency in routine techniques to include exercise tolerance testing and resting and ambulatory ECG and BP recording and analysis



To undertake training in a wide range of techniques to include implantation and follow-up of pacemakers and cardiac catheterisation procedures



To complete, or have completed, an approved programme of academic and professional study



RESPONSIBILITIES



1. Clinical Responsibilities



To competently perform exercise tolerance testing



To competently perform resting and ambulatory ECG and BP recordings including event recorders



To competently provide haemodynamic monitoring and procedural records during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation procedures with appropriate training



To competently perform single and dual chamber pacemaker and implantable loop recorder follow up checks, with appropriate training/ supervision.



To competently provide technical support during pacemaker implantation, generator replacement and associated procedures, with appropriate training/ supervision.



To competently provide technical support during loop recorder (Reveal) implantation and explant, with appropriate training/ supervision.



To participate in research activities of the department as required



2. Administrative Responsibilities



To demonstrate an awareness of the needs and priorities of co-workers, both within the Cardiac Department and the Cardiac Catheter Suite; coordinating and cooperating with other members of the team



To attend and participate in departmental meetings and to contribute to issues relating to quality of care, technical standards and efficiency improvements, as applied to own area of technical work



To demonstrate a basic awareness of stock control and ordering systems and of the importance of monitoring expenditure and efficiency of stock usage and to communicate with senior colleagues informed to allow them to manage these



To undertake work in a timely and efficient way, meeting deadlines and keeping senior colleagues informed of changes in own technical workload



To maintain clinical documentation and databases as directed, to participate in the provision of data for statistical analysis and to adhere to departmental standards of record keeping with respect to accuracy, timeliness of completion and confidentiality
