An opportunity has arisen to join our team to offer high quality clinical psychology service within the children's community nursing service



You will work alongside our Consultant Clinical Psychologist to provide psychological support and intervention for parents: to children and YP with a life limiting condition, their families and to staff within the team.



The Children's Community Nursing Team is a community based nursing team, travel across the county will be needed for this role.

Main duties of the job

The role will include:


Providing a clinical psychology service to clients and their families within the Children's Community Nursing (CCN) Service, with a diagnosis of life limiting condition, and to staff within the team;

To exercise responsibility and autonomy for the treatment of and discharge of clients whose problems are managed as a psychologically based care plan, ensuring appropriate assessment, formulation and interventions, communicating with the referral agent and others involved with the care on a regular basis;

To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual family or group;

To be responsible for implementing a range of highly specialist psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses;

We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

Education and Experience

Essential criteria

Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology ( or equivalent for those qualified prior to 1996) as accredited by BPS and HCPC HCPC as a practitioner psychologist Experience of working with children, young people and families in a clinical, hospital or community setting. Experience of working with children, young people with severe and enduring illness and terminal illness and their families. Experience of working with and supporting staff groups working with children with severe and enduring illness, and children, young people with terminal illness. Experience of teaching, training and professional and clinical supervision. Evidence of continued professional development, as recommended by the BPS.

Desirable criteria

Experience of child liaison psychology Experience of working with adults/families around mental health and/or bereavement Qualification in Family Therapy at Master's Level #

Skills

Essential criteria

Developed skills in working with people in extreme emotional distress. Skills and experience in working with staff who regularly deal with children with a terminal illness, and the parents of children with emotional illness, and the emotions generated by that context. Ability to analyse and evaluate interventions and to use a continuous feedback process to improve the quality of interventions delivered. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
