Role Details:
Provide psychological assessments of service users based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources. This will include psychological (and neuropsychological) tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations, and semi-structured interviews with service users themselves, care staff and others involved in the service user's care.
Be responsible for assisting, in the implementing of a range of highly specialist psychological interventions for individuals who offend or present challenging behaviour, support staff, and groups, within the service. To develop psychological formulations, drawing upon different explanatory models, and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
Make skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models, and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the service user, system or group.
Provide highly specialist forensic and challenging behaviour expertise and psychological advice, guidance and consultation, to other professionals contributing directly to service users' formulation, diagnosis and treatment and care plan.
Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and to provide both general and specialist advice on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
Support the multi-disciplinary team in ensuring the provision of a care package appropriate for people with complex needs including challenging and offending behaviour, identifying the gaps in provision of care, attending service user's care reviews as required and communicating effectively with the service user.
Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of service users, and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary care.
Provide expertise and advice to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all members of the service user's direct and indirect care team.
The Successful Candidate Will need:
Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology.
Be HCPC registered.
HCR-20 experience.
Post-doctoral training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice e.g. risk assessment, autism, personality disorder, substance dependence etc.
Experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist for a minimum of six years, including at least 3 years post qualification experience.
Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings.
Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies.
A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level.

Registration with the relevant Registration Body if applicable.
